Igros
The Vassal State of Igros
The state of Igros was founded by Lothenian immigrants that revolted against the kingdom and claimed their independence. Their greatest strength lies in their ships, and Igrite independence was won with naval battles and sabotage, to the point that Lothen was forced to compromise its reign, from colony to protectorate.Campaigning in Igros
The lands of Igros are rich and fertile. If it wasn’t for Lothen’s yoke, Igros might have grown into a powerful kingdom. Unlike most Human kingdoms, the streets of Igros are considered relatively safe. However, the forests are rumored to be haunted by spirits, making them extremely dangerous and unapproachable by most locals. Igrites believe in and fear spiritual activity, and now have separate names for spirits that dwell in forests, harbors, storages, castles, and other places, considering them, the greatest threat to the kingdom. The People of Igros
Most men of Igros become seafarers or musicians, and so, the majority of land Igrites consist of women. Women learn from an early age to create fabrics, pottery, and even weapons, and have an old tradition of blacksmithing. Weapons of Igros are characterized by their detailed work and finesse, which is credited to their women. Men take up the role of trading such creations by roaming the seas to the south and the east and do not return before they sell out their cargo. This tradition has been going on for centuries.Inner & Outer Conflicts
Igros faces its fair share of problems that derive from the Lion Mountains to the north. Conflicts with Lothenian, Dragorian, and Sartian soldiers are frequent but hardly serious enough to cause a war outbreak. Piracy, on the other hand, is the number one fear of all Igrites, as their cargo, is their most valuable possession. For this reason, Igrite men invest in security and hire more men to travel alongside them when embarking on a voyage. The Dangers of Igros
It is said that dangers in Igros are invisible. Igrites have a long tradition of learning to protect themselves from spirits that are considered the kingdom’s greatest threat. Curses, Spirits, and creatures unseen lurk at every step of the way, calamities that even kings dread. To travel safely is to study the lore of the kingdom and learn from the people their means of protection.Igrite Customs
- A Protector is elected by the people to rule over the country. Protectors are usually favorable to Lothenian leaders.
- Igrite Monarchs pay a tribute of 70% of their wealth to the kingdom of Lothen.
- Stewards are hired to function as authority figures in cities other than the capital.
- Women craft items of every kind with great skill and men sell them at sea.
- Dead bodies are burned on Pyres to prevent them from becoming vessels to evil spirits. Children’s bodies must be cleansed with specific rituals first.
- Only women become blacksmiths because Igrite weapons require detail and finesse that men cannot achieve.
- Only men become bards and musicians because they travel more and gather stories to complement their songs.
- All men must spend at least three months at sea on every voyage, otherwise, they are regarded as “weak” or “unsuccessful”.
- Older women take up the role of protectors against evil spirits, to protect the younger members of each family.
