Sol

The Vassal State of Sol

The vassal state of Sol was founded by religious knights who fought in the Great War of the Gods, They named their kingdom after the Sun God “Solisis”, one of the Knight Gods who fought on the side of the mortals in the war. Throughout the years, Sol’s influence was reduced to a Vassal State, which now pays homage to Lothen. Despite other vassal states, Sol’s relationship with Lothen is viewed favorably due to their common religious views.

Campaigning in Sol

The lands of Sol are extremely warm in the summer and cold in the winter. The land is mountainous and at times dry, but Sol is also characterized by the many healing springs that it contains, also known as miraculous lakes. One must be wary of the strict, religious laws of the Solites that take place both in and out of the cities.

The People of Sol

Solites are very religious. Their faith revolves around Solisis, the Sun God, and the rest of the Gods of the Final Light. They spend their days outdoors, working the land, and the fields and taking care of their livestock. They are able farmers, hunters, and craftsmen and have an able military unit of footmen called “Sunknights”. Most importantly, Solite men and women become Priests and Acolytes, to worship Solisis and dedicated their lives to him, which is considered, the highest of honors.

Inner & Outer Conflicts

Sol faces similar threats to the other southern kingdoms. Pirates from the southern seas and raiders from the Lion Mountains are frequently challenging their defenses. Moreover, Sol also faces domestic problems. Solite authorities complain about the lack of faith that certain people share. The leaders are intolerant to faithless subjects, especially to those who choose to practice magic, resulting in a constant witch hunt throughout the kingdom.

The Dangers of Sol

The most imminent danger when traveling in Sol is ignorance. Strict rules exist for the practice of faith when it comes to rituals and the usage of magic. The latter is considered a crime when practiced by nonbelievers. This has caused many Solites to withdraw to the mountains or the forests and follow an outlaw lifestyle instead, making the roads of Sol dangerous at times.

Solite Customs

  • A Cardinal is elected by the people to rule over the country. Cardinals can only be men.
  • Solite Monarchs pay a tribute of 50% of their wealth to the kingdom of Lothen.
  • Bishops are hired to function as authority figures in cities other than the capital. Bishops can be either men or women.
  • Priests and Priestesses are the only aristocrats in Sol and are entitled to certain benefits.
  • Magic users that are deemed faithless are sentenced to death by fire.
  • Dead bodies are left on tall platforms to rot under the sun.
  • Solites are expected to spend their days outdoors to receive the Sun’s blessings as much as possible. This is why most jobs in Sol are connected with the land.
  • Only men can become “Sunknigths”, a special military unit that fights with a very long spear.
