The Trident
The Trident Empire consists of complexes of islands in
The Southern Seas. Once, swarmed by monsters, they were cleansed by a legendary crew called “21 Seagulls” led by a former knight of Lothen named Mascardi Berio. Berio, who strayed from Lothenian orders and went rogue, faced the monsters of the uncharted islands and set the spark for what later led to the founding of a kingdom, ultimately resulting in a huge empire in years to come.
The Trident Empire is located in The Southern Seas. It stands beneath Lothen and the rest of the Human Kingdoms, west of Exotia and east of Vespia Sea and the perilous western continent of Vitallia.
Structure
- A Sea Lord is the emperor of all the kingdoms of the empire and has the highest rank of authority. The empire has its sigil, above the kingdom and family sigils.
- A King or a Queen is a figure of absolute authority in their kingdom. Each kingdom retains its independence unless the empire is threatened. A King or Queen may bear their kingdom’s sigil under the empire’s sigil.
- Stewards are in charge of cities beyond the capital, they serve as authority figures locally without possessing a sigil of their own. They pay taxes to the King or Queen and have the right to adjust the taxes of their cities.
- Aristocrats are wealthy and often powerful individuals due to their influence. They are usually owners of several establishments and possess several ships. Often they are retired sailors or captains that have been rewarded for their many years of service. They cannot bear their sigils but can possess a keep or a castle of limited military force serving as a personal guard.
- Middle class citizens are entitled to a small piece of land to produce and trade their goods and pay tribute to the local lords.
- Low class citizens provide labor in other peoples’ lands in exchange for a small salary. They are not entitled to any land and have limited rights that vary from city to city.
Customs
- Kings and Queens declare among them a Sea Lord who is entitled to a vote of double worth when it comes to decisions regarding the empire.
- The sea lord elected is usually the one with the strongest and largest fleet.
- The throne of each kingdom passes to the firstborn child.
- Upon the death of a Sea Lord, the title becomes subject to an election among Kings or Queens.
- The bodies of the dead are placed onto small vessels and are left to sail south with a golden coin.
- The bodies of kings are placed on boats along with valuable items and are left to sail towards the Vespia Sea.
- Kings maintain a share of independence regarding the affairs of their city-states.
