Lothen

The Kingdom of Lothen is considered the most powerful Human kingdom and the largest kingdom of central Vitallia. Lothen’s glorious history begins in the First Age when Vheod Whiteshield became King of the mountain tribes and formed the first-ever, organized army, the Knights of Lothen, who marched at the side of the Gods of The Final Light against the evil power of Nedel, the Hunter God. Ever since, Lothen has evolved into a dominant force of the continent, becoming known as the pinnacle of knighthood.

Geography

Lothen is located in the Forklands, built on the banks of The Fork and close to the Armorian mountains. Lothen consists of fertile lands, tall mountains, and rich fields that decorate the vast majority of the kingdom. The south part of Lothen serves as a gateway to the islands and easily connects with other parts of the world.

Structure

A Κing or a Queen is a figure of absolute authority in the kingdom. They reside in the capital and take up the sigil of the kingdom first, and the sigil of the family later.
Barons are local lords in charge of cities beyond the capital, they serve as authority figures locally, possessing an army of their own sigil under the kingdom’s sigil. They pay taxes to the King and have the right to adjust the taxes of their cities.
Aristocracy is the foundation of the financial strength of the kingdom. Certain aristocrats have their own sigil and private army but are obliged to support the crown both financially and military wise. They usually possess large estates at the outskirts of towns and trade networks in various cities and kingdoms.
High class citizens cannot bear their own sigils. They can possess a keep or a castle of limited military force (personal guard), which are often rewarded with after a great service towards a local lord. Knights can be branded only by local lords or the King or Queen.
Middle class citizens are entitled to a small piece of land in order to produce and trade their own merchandise, paying tribute to the local lords.
Low class citizens provide labor in other peoples’ lands in exchange for a small salary. They are not entitled to any land and have limited rights that vary from city to city. They are often farmers, serfs or squires and they cannot marry without their lord’s permission.

Customs

Jousting, knighthood and tournaments are the most important events of the kingdom.
A serf or a low born person cannot marry without a permit.
Dead bodies are buried in cemeteries.
Bodies of kings are buried in their castle’s yards.
Local Lords can modify certain laws and adjust the taxation of their lands.
Unlike most kingdoms that form alliances through matrimony, Lothen’s Kings and Queens originate solely from Lothen.
Kingship always remains within the Whiteshield family.

Lothen’s economy is mainly based upon local production, agriculture and trade. A huge trade network exists among the kingdoms of Lothen, Sol, Igros, Sarta and the Trident Islands, Exotia and the Kingdom of Rose.
