Knight Commander Moore
"Tread lightly knights! This is an alien world that none of you have ever stepped foot on! There are too many hazards to count on this mission. Defer to the field commanders and assist them in the investigation. Don't fight the locals or the wildlife unless absolutely necessary!"

The Rovia region is one of many regions of The Moon Izi, a hellish, frozen and burning moon orbiting the Planet Tarsuros. This region is notable because the god Beirunes resides there, on the Obsidian Isles. This world was originally created for him by the Tetrad and it later became his prison. In current times, Elves, Goblins, and Ogres call this world home and all three groups can be found living in the area. The region is relatively stable compared to other parts of the moon and thanks to high levels of aetheric corruption, numerous animals and plants can be found here.

Despite being a relatively stable region of the moon, it is still far more inhospitable than anywhere on Vreathe, with a very thin atmosphere composed mainly of sulphur and carbon dioxide. The temperatures out on the salt flat and the sulfurous wastes can be well below freezing and there might not be any wildlife for many miles. Then there are constant never-ending lavaflows that are said to be as hot as a star, acidic lakes that will melt the armor right off of an unsuspecting knight, and oddly sterile water lakes where no life can be found.

This region is accessible from Vreathe thanks to a portal inside of a Lava Lake, specifically the one on Mount Cendi, a large volcano in the Barony of Ardens. In order to cross the lava lake, the humans and elves of Vreathe originally needed to use large amounts of fire resistance and lava breathing potions. then once on Izi, they needed to be constantly casting magic to survive the atmospheric conditions. But thanks to an incident that happened recently, the Orcs of Veracrul provided a piece of technology that allows for instant teleportaton between the two worlds, as well as plans for specialized Aether Suits to survive without the constant need to cast magic.

The Moon Izi

Geography

The Runic Lava Sea

Only the southern tip of the sea is in the Rovia Region. This is one of the largest lava seas on the world and flows northward out of the region for many hundreds of miles. Vreathe has several small lava lakes, the largest being roughly a square kilometer in size. the Runic Lava Sea approaches a million. The sea has no known bottom but it is logical to assume it reaches the molten core of the world.

Fire Elves are able to survive the burning conditions of the lava and can easily swim and sail through it but they never lose sight of the shore, except to go to the Obsidian Isles.

Gigantic whale-like creatures swim offshore and eat anything that will fit in its mouth including small boats. Numerous other species of fish, worms, corals, and other creatures call this sea home as well, though most have never been seen and might never been seen by a traveler from Vreathe.

Nareshin Salt Flats

Scrapped bare of any sulphur by thousands of years of strong winds, both from Izi's thin atmosphere and from the Planet Tarsuros's overwhelming influence, large areas of the moon are covered in thick sodium chloride sheets that stretch in every direction as far as the eye can see.

These regions appear white at elevation, but on the surface are glassy smooth, and reflect the twilight sky, which appears violet due to some unknown physical or magical interaction with the world.

On the surface of the salt flats, semi nomadic groups of Goblins and Ogres make their homes here, shepherding large groups of fluffy creatures that are at least superficially similar to sheep on Vreathe. Other herding animals call these lands home, as well as large predators.

Ashen Wastes

under the shadow of multiple volcanoes to the north and east, the Ashen Wastes have a brownish-yellow coloration thanks to the sulphur and blackened ash. Numerous lava lakes can be found in this region, including the portal to Vreathe. Several lava flows also cut through the region. Water and acid lakes have equal chances of appearing, especially the closer one gets to highland areas.

Other than the caverns under the highlands, this is the most likely location one might find Fire Elves, who have numerous outposts out on the wasteland. There are also multiple species of Phoenix birds that roost near the lava lakes and large roving packs of Magma Wolves, always looking for an easy meal. Herding animals also wander here, moving from acid to water to lava, depending on how the Aether is corrupting them.

This is one of the places on Izi that experiences regular weather, or at least a close approximation to it. Various types of ash and sulphur storms can roll in depending on how the nearby volcanoes are acting and the atmosphere can suddenly get very thick and warm, almost like Vreathe but with the includion of poisonous gases, or get extremely thin and cold again and be no different from the vacuum of space.

"Thank goodness for these special Aether Suits! I can't imagine how much magic we'd be constantly casting trying to not die out here otherwise!"

The Dark Citadels

Field Commander Renelle
"Oh no, we aren't going anywhere near these things! If the writings from Scholar Caio are accurate, there's Nameless Horrors that live there. I fought enough of them in the dungeons below Vreathe to know they aren't worth screwing with. They won't help us make contact with the elves anyways!"

Dotting the landscape in every area of the Rovia Region are colossal blackened structures, hundreds of meters tall that can be seen from many miles away. These are the Dark Citadels, buildings from the Silver Age that somehow still stand after many tens of thousands of years.

Greedy Silver Humans used to live here, lording over a world that wasn't there, exploiting it for resources. But when the great Silver Age Cataclysm happened, most of the silver humans were transformed into writhing masses of tentacled horrors. Unable to cast magic but cursed with painful immortality, they hid in their black castles, never to interfere with anything again. There are reports that they interact with the roaming packs of Magma Wolves. but otherwise are never seen.

While there are many thousands of dark citadels across the moon, the Rovia Region is unique because it has the expansive Skyfortress Shipyards, a city sized factory that built the great ships of the Silver Age. A skyfortress contains specialized weapons powerful enough to fight gods and no two were the same. The giant airships that the Orcs of Veracrul fly in are based on the original designs of the skyfortresses.

Author's Notes

  • I might need to expand the article a little to describe the frequent volcanic eruptions as well as the two major centers of elven population: the Severkor Mountains and the Jirra Caverns.
  • Story will be added to the end of the article once I get more SC articles done.

This region is really cool! I like how varied the geography is. The dark citadels remind me of the towers in the Oblivion planes in Elder Scrolls 4!
