General Summary
Identification
- On the deck of the ship, Harold noticed a shoeless, shirtless Rayne, soaking wet with seawater, dashing for the ship while running away from a dog. He helped Rayne get on the ship, and was able to see the tattoos on his back and arms. Rayne explained that he had left his coat somewhere so that it wouldn't get wet when he swam to retrieve the letter explaining that he had divine permission to be there.
- Rayne asked Alton why he was wearing his (Rayne's) boots.
- Harold sought out Gim to see if he had learned how to identify magic items.
- Gim identified the fragment of the chain Harold had picked up from the dissipated "His Masterpiece" fiendish construct.
- Gim attempted to identify the jar of dust Harold had taken from the giant kneecap in the astral plane. This immediately left Gim in a catatonic state.
- Harold did not explain the nature of Gim's sudden illness, but sought the help of Krumbleton and Rayne. It seemed that Gim had "seen something he should not have".
- Krumbleton called on what power of Thor he could access (he indicated that he felt his divine connection near non-existent, and his powers weakening) to heal Gim.
- Harold convinced Rayne to identify the other items he had found. Rayne did this using arcane magic as he was not a god in the area. He was immediately spellscarred. He identified the dust as marrow dust from the Nameless Goddess.
- Gim recovered to a degree, but was sleepy.
Healing Curses
- Beau asked Krumbleton for fresh bread but found the bread he gave her stale, mouldy, disgusting.
- After hearing Rayne mention cursed bread that starved a town, Beau inquired as to what symptoms she should be looking out for.
- Beau ransacked the kitchen, looking for anything that tasted ok. Everything tasted horrible.
- Crunch was deeply offended.
- Crunch suggested Beau "find religion".
- Beau asked Krumbleton if he could uncurse her.
- A sleepy Gim at the kitchen table gave Beau a sapphire and asked her to get it to Harold and not ask where he got it.
- Krumbleton cooked a greatly restorative meal that smelled great to everyone else. Beau struggled to eat it. Krumbleton insisted she eat all of it to be healed. She was tied to the chair. Beau became convinced Krumbleton was trying to poison her.
- Beau tried to teleport away. A counterspell duel ensued, some spells flaring due to the magical instability of the world. Sleepy Gim, Fernando, and Ryltar kept Beau in place. Gore the barbarian restrained her. Eventually, all the food was eaten. Beau felt extremely full.
Looking for Friends
- Meanwhile, Alton and Harold went to go and find a way to the underdark.
- They returned to Andrew Smith's house, but found it under guard.
- Alton snuck in to investigate the grate in the basement.
- It led to a sewer passage. He ran into a wear rat who wanted nothing to do with him and ran away. The wear rat seemed emaciated. It seemed others of his gang had died to the bread, though some remained in the shadows, watching Alton.
- Alton found signs indicating passages to some places called undermountain and skullport.
- Alton returned to Harold who absolutely refused to travel through the sewers.
- Harold suggested Alton look for other dark elves.
- After much searching, with the help of his familiar and his knowledge of drow shoes, Alton identified a suspicious man. He was clearly flirting with a dwarven woman.
- He claimed to be a businessman and seemed ready to extort Alton for an enormous sum of money to get him to the underdark. The negotiated to have a meeting in the inn later. The "man"'s name was Rhylyn.
Training?
- Back on the ship, Alton started training Beau in the ways of underdark drow mannerisms. He persuaded an as usual contrary Vaena to "help". Vaena complained that she could not communicate properly with Beau, and did not have the power to change to her dark elf form.
- Beau gave Harold the sapphire. Harold gave Gim his magic tattoo. Harold also found Rayne, relaxing on the ceiling of the mess hall in a fur coat. He gave him the sapphire.
- His fetch quest at last fulfulled, Harold was able to change the forms of his wings, though he found it more difficult to fly with the feathered wings. He impersonated Donnie, without butterfly wings, and joined in on the training.
- Ryltar was also brought to "training".
