General Summary

Alton's Escape

  • The three vampires attempted to fight Alton
  • Alton hid away, and attempted to persuade them
  • The drow vampire threw daggers that appeared from his cloak, attempting to locate Alton
  • The firbolg vampire summoned several wolves.
  • The three hesitated in their attack but were still hesitant to trust Alton
  • The wolves noted the approach of another vampire
  • The three fled in different directions
  • Alton fled back to the ship
  • He noted an armed and armoured vampire surrounded by red mist dispatching the wolves.
  • He climbed back to the ship using his rope of climbing
  • He noticed a raven had spotted his rope.

Concerns and Ideas

  • Upon hearing Alton's report, the captain was concerned that they had lost the element of surprise
  • The captain was further concerned to hear that Alton had given his real name, mentioned Ryltar, and been followed by what he assumed to be a familiar.
  • Harold thought there was a possibility that the other vampires had escaped and were nowhere near the fortress
  • The captain had the ship move to a new position
  • Alton noticed the raven returned to investigate, likely seeking the ship, but chose not to interact.
  • Alton's bow was uninterested in the bird, indicating that it likely was not a vampire.
  • There was little else of note throughout the rest of the rest.
  • The party considered that if they could find Myviira's disembodied heart, they might destroy it or using it as a bargaining chip
  • Harold even suggested offering it to the hags in exchange for Zed, which the rest of the party thought was not the greatest idea.
  • The party discussed scrying on Ryltar but was worried that such a spell would be detected
The Route Below
  • After much hesitance, the party decided to venture below the sapphire island and find the pit, a possibly entry point to the fortress identified by Lys as something of a garbage chute.
  • When the ship reached the area beneath the island, it was surrounded by magical darkness.
  • As neither Alton nor Rust were attuned to Alton's goggles, only Donnie could see in the dark, indicating that there were weird floating bits of goop that looked a bit like jellyfish floating through the air
  • Rust identified these as darkness, and Harold determined them to be neither vampires nor alive when his helmet could not absorb them.
  • Rust attempted to use his new elemental friend to feel along the edge of the jagged bottom of sapphire island using tremor sense and Donnie kept a lookout to assist Gore the barbarian in flying the ship.
  • The going was slow, taking several hours, but the party and crew eventually stumbled upon a horrid stench.

Up the Pit

  • Rust requested that his elemental form a staircase so they could ascend
  • Farren called on Luin's sword of sunlight to brighten in the dark
  • The light expanded to 30ft bright, 30 ft dim light as expected, but was intermittent, flickering on and off as the dark jellyfish substance was drawn to and pushed away from the sword.
  • Donnie left her goggles with Gore the Barbarian after consulting the captain.
  • The party gave the crew orders to be ready to catch them when they jumped back into the pit.
  • The party made sure that they had potions of levitation and feathers of feather falling prepared.
  • The party, rust's elemental friend, and Donnie ascended the staircase.
  • The pit was filled with decaying remains, though with little blood.
  • The party was briefly assailed by centipedes.
  • After briefly panicking, Krumbleton called upon spirit guardians, mentioning that he knew one personally now. The spirit guardians easily dispatched the centipedes.
  • Donnie seemed unfazed by the little crawlers. Rust asked if she was accustomed to this. "Centipedes? No... Though one time, when we were off fetching some ancient magical armour, we were in this cave with walls made of spiders that were made of bones... Wyldo cast fireball... that hurt." The party remarked how fireball was a spell particularly dangerous to old ladies.
  • Eventually, the magical darkness dissipated and Farren dimmed the sword of Luin.

Oh No A Door

  • There was a trapdoor at the top of the pit
  • It seemed to be barred from the other side
  • Rust noted that knocking the door down or having Mudslide create an alternate path would both be noisy
  • Rust proposed using mage hand to lift the bar from the other side of the door, but since he did not have the spell assisted Donnie in doing so
  • The captain opened the door
  • The room above had two wheelbarrows and two doors.
  • The captain attempted to use locate object to find the nearest disembodied vampire heart but found nothing.
  • The captain opted not to attempt to locate anything of Ryltar's as it seemed likely that Ryltar had been separated from his belongings.
