Unwelcome Prejudices Day 2-3

General Summary

To The Underdark (the tavern)

  • The party left the inn where Alton and Rhylyn had their meeting
  • Alton attempted to get Fernando to fix the broken mask the party had found in Andichar's library. Unfortunately, as half the mask was missing, Fernando was unable to help. Alton attempted to wear the mask anyway, but felt nothing from it.
  • Alton tried to explain the old god he worshipped before coming to Vyaelian, who was apparently dead now. He explained how Vhaerun was better than the alternatives and actually cared for his worshippers. Vaena offhandedly mentioned he was also a god of arrogance.
  • Farren asked Fernando to join them at the bar. He tasked the disguised skeleton with learning as much as he could about the underdark. Unfortunately, as it was 2 in the morning, the city's libraries were closed. Fernando hurried back to the ship to change. Farren told him he did no necessarily have to learn in the same bar they were going to so Fernando promised to visit all the bars in the city to see what he could learn.

Shenanigans

  • The party arrived at the Underdark (the tavern) before closing.
  • Harold and Alton tried to mess with Paul by switching places.
  • Alton ordered an "underdark cow burger".
  • Captain Farren ordered pork ribs, and then realized he had only ever heard of "burgers" in Vyaelian before.
  • Paul claimed that the "burger" name and idea had come from a traveller who had stopped by the tavern many years ago, when it was first opening. Or maybe later. It was between 1000 and 100 years ago. The "burger" had become popular enough in the tavern, but had not really spread throughout the city.
  • After the tavern closed, Paul began implying that he wanted to hear their offers for how much money they would pay him.

There was some racism

  • Negotiations were interrupted by a loud knock at the door.
  • The elf that Harold, disguised as Alton, had spoken to while he and Ryltar were lost was there. He was in the company of two eladrin, an angry dwarf, and a stuttering but sturdy looking guard.
  • The party outside demanded entry, claiming that they knew the tavern was smuggling stolen goods and poisons and also complaining about the drow in the party.
  • A lengthy, and tiring conversation ensued.
  • Alton eventually opened the door.
  • Beau almost started a fight, using magic to stain the dwarf's trousers.
  • The elf claimed they were there for the well being of the city, and clearly had some personal issues with the drow.
  • Harold arrived behind everyone, disguised as a short dwarf from Vyaelian. His arrival was so unexpected it distracted the angry dwarf.
  • Farren challenged the dwarf to a drinking competition. Alton bet 2000 gold pieces on Farren. Neither Farren nor the dwarf were the slightest bit affected by the alcohol.
  • Beau insistently pestered the guard, who was inspecting the tavern though he clearly was not comfortable with the situation. He may have been hiding something from his companions.
  • Eventually, Beau pointed out that he could use magic to tell if they were lying and everyone huddled up for a circle of truth.
  • Both the guard and captain Farren cast circle of truth without issue - it seemed divine magic was still fine.
  • The elf refused to accept that Alton and Ryltar were not there for nefarious purposes.
  • Eventually, the dwarf asked everyone, one by one, if they were hiding any secrets that would make him want to put his axe between their eyes.
  • Alton, having doubts about Kayelin, told his understanding of her backstory. Accompanied by Beau's instrumentation, this moved the winter eladrin to tears. Kayelin was not a fan of his interpretation that she had misunderstood Anfalen's intent.
  • Harold slowly drank a single drink over the course of hours. The dwarf called him half pint.
  • Beau nervously asked what kinds of people the dwarf might attack on sight. When he answered orcs, she said no, she did not think she had any secrets that would make him want to kill her.
  • The dwarf and eladrin and the human guard were all satisfied. The elf was not and stormed away.
  • The dwarf remained for a while, finishing his contest with Farren. They downed the same amount of ale, then the dwarf ran out to pee. He claimed a tie. Farren remained seated until the others were gone and claimed victory, then also ran out to pee.
  • Paul spent this time serving drinks wordlessly, apparently waiting for the accusations of smuggled or stolen goods.
  • When they were gone, the drinks paid for, and an extra thousand gold given to Paul, he very sleepily waved away his other friends in the tavern, in the loft area and in the booth, and let the party go down to the storage area beneath the kitchen.

So Harold was right, there was a staircase

  • Behind some shelves, the party found a staircase descending down into darkness.
  • Captain Farren got word that a wizard had left a message with the ship, likely Robillard.
  • Also, post session, Harold placed Gyrdyr's coin insider the bottle containing the bone dust of the Nameless Goddess. It dissapeared within the dust, causing it to glow briefly. Harold then tried to use it as a spell casting focus, and was spell scarred. He is fine though.

Rewards Granted

  • Access to a staircase to the underdark
