Nef

God-Emperor of the New Rozsan Empire

"There are those who whispered Nef was the true power behind the throne, his sister nothing more than a bookish eccentric. No one took greater offence to this than Nef. Examples were made."

Nef was a wizard, swordsman, strategist, investigator, Lichlord and together with his sister, the fellow Lichlord Nir, the de-facto leader of the interplanar The New Rozsan Empire, which arrived on Waking Materia in the Late-Upper Era of the First Age Age, approximately 600 years after the Kelpeater Empire. The sibling Lichlords were second-most influential of the Colonial Gods, behind the High King of the Kelpeaters, Inum'indiron'aravaut. He bore many titles, most prominently God-Emperor and Divine Overseer.

It was Nir's nation-state of Elmdor that emigrated from the plane of Rozsa to establish the colony of New Rozsa on the backwater plane. She asked him to join and, ever-loyal to his sister, he agreed.

Nef eventually founded the mysterious nation of Nefirot.

Nef's alignment was likely Lawful Evil.

Appearance & Heraldry

Generally, Nef is portrayed as a thin but wiry man of about 50 years of age with a long white beard and fierce eyebrows, dressed in fine Empyreal battlemage domaru. He's often seen holding his legendary, orange-glowing straightblade, Vritra.

Domains

Nef's domains are unknown, and indeed some scholars question whether the Nireauan godlords had domains at all, as they seem not to have been worshipped directly. If he did have domains, they likely revolved around combat, strategy, divination and illusion.

Favoured Weapon

It is known tht Nef's Relic Weapon was the tsurugi straightblade, Vritra. It was known to gleam with sickly orange light, and was rumoured to be able to cut on both sides of the Veil simultaneously when swung. Knowledge of how to recreate this effect is richly sought by modern weaponsmiths.

History

Together with his sister Nir, Nef ran the Temporal Vanguard, an organization of immortal fortune-tellers that officially "advised" the many ruling councils of the New Rozsan Empire, but were in fact the expansive commonwealth's de-facto rulers.

While Nir was content to keep to herself much of the time and contributed her (admittedly massive) genius to the Vanguard only when it suited her, Nef was in the field near-constantly, leading armies, assassinating nuisances and streaking across the sky at absurd speeds, surveying new territory.

Occasionally someone would make the mistake of whispering that Nir's brother was New Rozsa's true ruler; no one was more angered at this implication than Nef himself. Such statements were dealt with harshly.

Nefirot

Despite his loyalty to his sister lasting through undeath and interplanar empire-making, Nef disappeared without a trace in the Middle-Upper (Brigantian) First Age. Signs in the historical records (what few have survived the Deluge) are scant to none, so most theories are nothing but conjecture. Some speak of a semi-mythological fiefdom of Nefirot that the Lichlord began, possibly on and island near Stargrave or Tiam's Cradle in the Upper Delta or Lower Alpha Quadrant.
