The East End

WFRP 2e Spires Of Altdorf
WFRP 4e Altdorf Crown of Empire
The East End of Altdorf has a grim reputation for poverty, lawlessness, violence, and revolutionary sentiment.   Large swathes of the area are given over to jostling terraces, cramped tenements, and the maze-like alleyways of Altdorf’s rookeries. Cartographers often complain that Altdorf is unmappable, because the rookeries of the East End are subject to constant change.   Residents erect barricades to defy watch patrols or delineate Fishheld territory from that of the Hooks. Fire can burn through the jostling shacks with fierce speed, but the construction of replacement dwellings is commenced as soon as the earth has cooled.   The area is dominated by the grim summit of Crackle Hill, the traditional execution site for the cities criminal fraternity and dominated by its gibbits, execution blocks and the smoking pyres of witches and other heretics.   The central area contains the infamous FleishMark (Flesh Market). an open abbatior where livestock is slaughtered and meat is prepared for distribution across the entire city.   In the northen part of the East End lies the area known locally as 'The Drecks' home of the most infamous criminal gangs in the city and the location of 'The Three Beards' Tavern its most violent drinking establishment. It is also the location of the Grey College and The Order of Shadownasters who study the Lore of the Shadows and hide their existence amongst the crumbling streets and buildings close to Vermin Alley.   The River Talabec runs along the western edge of the area lined with the warehouses and piers of the Old Docks. This once thriving trading district has long since been replaced by the more accessible Reiksport situationed on the North Bank of the Reik and the trade which now frequents this area is heavily tainted by smuggling and other naferious business.   The Reikerbahn nestles at the southern tip of the area close to the confluence of the Reik and Talabec. This notorious area is home to many of the cities Thieves Guilds and Crime Lords and is largely avoided by any sensible watchman or citisen. Order is mainly enforced by 'The Fish' who are in the employ of the local crime loards. At the very tip of the Reikenbahn is the Isle of Eels which is strictly a no-go area for the city authorities and heavily defended by 'The Fish'.
