Eldritch Greatsword

Axelrod Gunnarsson chose this greatsword when selecting his reward from the Magic University of Mystryl for his deeds and enrollment. It spoke to him for reasons he doesn't yet understand. Per the quartermaster, no wielder has successfully attuned to or effectively wielded the sword in ages.
During the first combat the sword saw in Axelrod's hands, Hobart Shaw noticed cracking and scaling along the blade, something Axelrod somehow couldn't perceive. After a mighty blow to a kobold, the sword shed its ancient skin (which almost struck Hobart in the process). This revealed a sharp blade with a carved silver crossguard.
After regaining consciousness in the pool at the bottom of his "leap of faith," Axelrod saw the outer skin of the blade slowly fall from this sword, revealing a polished blade of hardened steel. It had a sleeker profile with a fuller that seemed to cry out for the blood of Axelrod's enemies.
