Sol Meridia
When you talk about Sol Meridia, you are really talking about two things: money and Sol Meridians. The enormous taxes provided by the island are considered by many to be one of the foundations of Eire's power and influence in the New World. So naive — that influence has long started to affect the Old World as well. After all, there must be a bloody good reason Eirish are so desperate to keep the island no matter the cost. The Sol Meridians, however, will most likely be the cause of Eire's eventual downfall. Some people say that Sol Meridia is key to Eire's power in the New World. The island is located on a strategic position through which most of the trade between the New World and the Old World passes. As a result, the people of Sol Meridia have gained immense wealth and influence, which they use to invest in trade activities all over Windrule, increasing their welfare even further. The island is also known for its unique culture. Due to it being a centre of trade, people of all races come to trade and live there. Having adapted to a new society, those cultures each add something new to it, blending together to become what is known as Sol Meridians. Its distinction is largely caused by the fact that unlike other major colonies, Sol Meridia has a large degree of autonomy from the metropolis. In accordance with the Gollanhad's Pact, most of the authority on the island was given to the Benevolent Council consisting of representatives of the Sol Meridia's most wealthy and influential communities.
