Shingali Desert
A vast and desolate desert at the center of Lathas and home to the Shingaal.
Geography
Nestled to the east of the Kinnenberg Mountains, most of the Shingali Desert is as its name suggests: a desert. The Ossindi Oases glimmer as a jewel of hope in the west, under the Kinnenbergs' shadows. A vastness of sand and dunes overwhelms the rest of the region.
History
Up to the Second Age
Ghairi was really the first city of the Shingaal. History notes that it started as a stop-off point for merchants sailing through the sea that wanted to stay closer to the shoreline so as to avoid storms and purported sea monsters. From Ghairi, merchants trekked the deserts, searching for new customers and fresh wares. At some point after the Great War, traders found the twin oases, and the founding of Ossindi soon followed. A road through the sand dunes wound through the desert, connecting the two sides of the continent and the Port of Ghairi to the north. Once the Ossindan Trade Company came to power and flexed its strength over the merchants of Lathas, Ossindi became one of the most influential locations in the world, despite its inhospitable location. Ossindi and Ghairi are rebuked by the people of Taejin to the northwest due to their unfair control over the markets. The Third Age and Beyond
