Lower Rendlea

Lower Rendlea is a hardy land. The only people that live there are the hill-folk. They live solitary lives with their families on small homesteads that dot the lands of Lower Rendlea. If you approach a Lower Rendlean homestead, expect an arrow in your throat from a hundred meters before you come close to the house. They take bandits seriously, as a dozen homesteads burn a year from the bandit incursions that run rampant in the south of the Fens. The only time they leave their homesteads is to approach the multitude of Lake Towns to barter with the Zingaro gypsy's that dwell in the Lake Towns. They avoid the towns along the eastern coast, as they don't trust those that live there.   The hillocks of Lower Rendlea are a sight to behold in spring through autumn, but in the winter they become nearly inhabitable. The whitetail deer hide deep within their burrows and scant come out, same can be said for the massive grizzly bears that stalk the hills and thin creeks. Food is scarce in winter, which forces the Lower Rendleans to make their way toward the coastal towns for the winter. This of course causes serious issues with the coastal towns, specifically Merriwall and Butterbank. The hillfolk steal from the folks of Merriwall, and chalk it up to survival and see no wrong in their ways. The mayor of Merriwall is forced to accommodate the hill-folk that do decide to head east to escape the winter snows, this puts them at odds with the more civilized folk. Those that choose to stay in the hills for winter have a difficult time finding food, and its not uncommon for them to be bandits and highwaymen during the winter months, then returning to their small farms in spring.
