Black Mantite

Black Mantites are separate from other Mantites in that very few of them existed in Mantle as colonists, Instead many were captured slaves from Vacuo before the great war and over the course of a 100 years and through the Great war, became integrated within Mantle and future Atlas and Whitecliffe. Black Mantites have mixed features and often have blue eyes with an average of lighter dark skin tones.
They're very present in Mantle and generally exist outside of privileged circles, it's a left over of Colour Racism and many Black Mantites are still stuck in lower economic situations outside of Whitecliffe and it's allies. This is due to existing class divides within the Nation of Atlas and partly leftover and archaic discrimination against Black Mantites. Mantites like Flynt are the ones who created Mantite Blues as it was a restoration of the old tunes former slaves used to keep up their morale and foster a sense of belonging amongst each other.

General Culture

Black Mantites are one of the few ethnic groups someone can point to and say they have a general shared view, Black Mantites thanks to their history are more likely to be obviously anti colonialist and Anti Slavery. This influences a lot of things in every individual's choices with generational trauma still affecting them to this day even though the world has seemingly moved past the old issues. Black Mantites are also less likely to be racist towards Synths and Faunus because they of course understand their situations better given their history.
This is why music like Mantite blues is made, it's bringing the pains of the past to the present to inform others how they could address the problems of today.
That said, Class is powerful and so Black Mantites in Atlas Elite can still be Hyper Reactionary, Imperialist and Pro Colonialism despite everything suggesting they probably should not be.

The Republic of Mantle

Not all Black Mantites have Blue eyes or lighter tones, This means that specific Black Mantite is closer to their genetic heritage in Vacuo. Pietro Polendina for instance comes from a long line of Black Mantites who forwarded rights for their people and worked to further erode the old systems of racism. This is why Pietro had no issues falling in love with a fairer skinned Mantite and eventually tried having a family with her.
It is also why Penny has fairer skin, she is meant to look a bit like her Mother.

Elm is a good example of how Light their Dark Skin can get, She likely has a fair bit of interracial Relationships in her blood line. Elm is also a good example of a Black Mantite born in Atlas and serving in the Atlas Military as a Ace Ops Operative.
