Personal history

One of King Vadim Talat's biological sons, the twin brother of Emrah Talat, Ethem was a fairly straightfoward child, who under normal circumstances probably would have turned out fine. He was close to his twin and then their adopted third brother Evren when they were children, and could have been taught to be happy with what he had, if it weren't for the way his King-father's own mental health so drastically deteriorated.   King Vadim did not handle the pressure of being a King at War well, and he turned that pressure on his sons as they grew, making it very clear that everything they did was judged and found wanting, and their entire existence was a contest to see who would be his heir. Ethem was desperate for his father's approval and perhaps if Vadim had not been so ruthless or so cruel, it would have been easy enough to simply then pick him because he was certainly trying the hardest, but Vadim did not. And the constant failure and scrutiny drove Ethem to become cruel and quite mad as well, culminating in him killing his twin and attempting to kill Evren.   For three years after he killed Emrah, Ethem was free and alive but disgraced, because Vadim chose Evren as his heir after all. When Vadim died and Evren took the throne, the first thing he did was imprison his brother for his crime, and Ethem was executed about a year later. His sole focus always gaining his father's approval and becoming King, Ethem never married or had any children.
