Mochi's SC24 Reading Challenge
And that's another Summer Camp done! I wrote some epic stuff this year, but this isn't about me! This is about YOU! I haven't read as much throughout Summer Camp as I normally do, but I already knew I wanted to make a lovely reading challenge article and celebrate the amazing stuff you guys have created.
I will be taking a look at both inspiring worlds and inspiring articles. I've really enjoyed a handful of worlds this SC, and I went out of my way to read as much from them as possible. And of course, as is required for a reading challenge, I will take a look at ten articles written in the event.
Inspiring Worlds
Etrea
There's so much I can say about Etrea. Dr Emily Vair-Turnbull is truly a phenomenal writer who can do so much with as few words as possible. Etrea feels like home for me. I will always feel this sense of comfort when opening up this world, no matter what the article is about.
Ethnis
This is my favourite world, and I will never shut up about it. I'm sorry but, how can I not? Ethnis has two writers, Ademal and Barron. The two have together created a masterpiece of a maximalist science fantasy world. It is my biggest inspiration, and it has been an absolute joy to read more from this world during Summer Camp. And, with two authors, I get to read twice the amount of articles!
Solaris
I looooove Solaris. It has some of my favourite worldbuilding, and I am in love with how Annie Stein has reinvented the Sol System, from a (mostly) lifeless solar system in the real world, to a fantastical mishmash of vibrant cultures. It is a work of art, and so much time and thought is put into every single article.
Isekai
Isekai was one of the first world I came across on World Anvil, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I was in love with the world from the moment I saw it - the formatting is gorgeous, the writing is beyond thrilling and engaging, and I love the detail of every single article. Everything has its place, and I love how big the world is, too. Easy to get lost in, which is one of my favourite things in a world.
Aran'sha
Tyrdal is an incredible writer, who always tells beautiful stories within every single article. They are always chonky articles, which means I can really dive into the world in one go.
Aran'sha is a relatively new world, too! It's been so fun getting to see it grow these past few months, seeing it win lots of unofficial challenges and soar in popularity.
Inspiring Articles
I have decided to pick ten articles from authors that aren't in my inspiring worlds list, just for some more variety (as I've already linked some articles from them!). Enjoy!
Ocean's Hole
Author: Agnes
This restaurant sounds gorgeous, and I would absolutely visit this if it existed in real life. I knew this would be on my reading list from the moment I read it.
Obega
Author: Rumengol
I had the honour of drawing the art you see in the header, as my first ever commission! Nevertheless this is an amazing article, and I was captivated at the very first sentence.
Teeth?
Author: Han
What the fuck
I want to scream, cry, throw up, have a hissy fit, defenestrate myself after reading this. But they're oddly... cute? Han's articles make me feel all kinds of things and in this case, I don't know if I like it snjdsndsj (I love the article)
Fluid Dreams
Author: NimrodialLibrary
Nincho is a true master of writing short articles making them incredibly captivating. This article is mysterious, intriguing, and you just want to know more. Just like customers always come back to the Fluid Dreams inn.
Election of a Tower Leader
Author: Amélie I. S. Debruyne
It would be silly to not include an Amelie article now, wouldn't it? I really enjoy the concept of this article, and the fact that tower leaders are chosen based on magical vibe is hilarious.
Rada
Author: Rin Garnett
How could I not include this article, when its first sentence talks about a garden world?? Turns out the planet isn't as pretty as the intro first describes it. Fantastic read.
Pfen
Author: CoolG
I was really invested in CoolG's progress this Summer Camp, and so excited to see her surpass her initial goal of 8 articles. This is an article about an adorable witch that loves terrorising people in the forest :D
Tùgwlduin - Ice Giants
Author: Blue Fairy 74
The styling of Blue Fairy's worlds are always on point, and the writing is beautiful, too. I especially enjoy the "At a Glance" section, and how much detail goes into the ecosystems of this region! We all know that's my favourite thing to worldbuild.
Earthen Ecological Society
Author: Frod0_baggins
I love a good organisation that protects the Earth. The planet really needs it. And in Starsong, Earth really needs it. I really enjoy how vibrant the world's CSS is, and while that doesn't have much to do with the article itself, I still wanted to mention it.
The Order of the Maple
Author: Alan Byers
I had to pick another organisation that protected the natural world! It's such an important thing to me in the real world, and I love it when people write about protecting ecosystems in their world. This article is a great example of this, and I'm really enjoying Waking Materia at the moment.
Awww, Mochi, you're gonna make me cry ;_____; Some great picks here - I'm definitely going to have to look through them when I have cleared my notifications (thoguh I recognise quite a few!)! :D
Explore Etrea
*hugs* yaaay! I hope you enjoy the articles I picked :D
