Folkrum

Refugee's Solace

Demographics

Almost every human living in Folkrum is a woman or child, as their brothers and husbands were either killed or pressed into service under The Bloody Cross - the only exception is Ko, who deserted the gang and was saved by The Heroes of Patrala Nagara. Everyone here came from King's servitude and are little more than farmers, laborers, and homemakers, weary and desperate after living through hell. Before that, they were spread around Green Gullet in small towns such as Gromm, Drelk, and Goshu.

Government

The settlement is far too small and struggling to have any system of government - people are currently too busy trying to secure basic food and shelter to organize in any meaningful way. The closest person Folkrum has to a leader is Zainab Al-Grommi, who has other pressing matters to deal with in the rest of Green Gullet. She and The Heroes of Patrala Nagara stop by regularly to check on the welfare of the refugees and the Pokemon they have left here.

Defences

Folkrum is not entirely defenseless: the villagers can retreat underneath Folk's Rock to hide behind its walls if need be, and they have a smattering of weapons and tools they could use to try and fight back. In the event of anything serious, they are expected to open up the Monster Corral and hope for the best, since they have no magical ways of controlling them like their masters do. Fortunately, The Heroes of Patrala Nagara charged them with protecting the villagers before they left on more adventures.

Infrastructure

Admittedly, Folkrum can hardly be called a town, as there is almost nothing here. On top of Folk's Rock is a crude farm that grows both Apricorns and Zamzaleaf in skewed planter boxes. There is also a simple gutter system designed to gather rainwater and collect it in a cistern underneath the formation, where the main living quarters of the villagers are. They mostly sleep on blankets and straw beds in underground rooms, but are protected by a palisade wall that extends up the formation, almost sealing them in. Just outside the gate is a simple Beatball court made of crushed rock with a woven bamboo net - the only source of entertainment in town.

On the edge of town to the west is the Monster Corral, the first of its kind in the world. It is filled with the various Pokemon that The Heroes of Patrala Nagara have caught on their adventures, but right now it is a simple fenced enclosure with a small freshwater pond in it, and it is already crowded with animals, sentient rocks, and ghosts. The roof is finished, but the entire enclosure needs expansion if more monsters are to stay here, as it can only hold about 40 Pokemon at the moment. To the east is Namaku Samudra where Mummy's Isle resides, and there is a small dock being built along the shoreline for fishing purposes. Finally, Zainab Al-Grommi set up some solar desalination filters near the docks so the villagers would have some supply of fresh water, although there is now a "pipeline" leading from a freshwater source about 2 miles away. The "pipeline" is simply a tunnel dug out by the Digletts. The nearby forest has had a small section cleared away to grow medical herbs in.

Assets

The only thing the people here have is what little scraps of food and tools they stole from King's Western Docks, where they were liberated from. They also have about a dozen weapons, mostly spears and axes. Their only sustainable source of food is from fishing in the sea, and the monsters they catch are violent and strong enough to give them trouble. They have few medical supplies except for a single Advanced First Aid Kit and a few potions.

The Pokemon here are invaluable to the village's welfare: Machop works out by carrying heavy buckets of water from the spring 2 miles away - the same one that the Digletts are building a tunnel towards. The Delta Snivies aid the fishers by helping to kill the dangerous monsters they catch. Electabuzz has nothing to do at the moment, but Zainab Al-Grommi is currently drafting a design for an electric generator to supply the town with power. Delta Pidgeot, when it is here, is commanded by Jin to guard the townsfolk and hunt in the woods nearby to ward off monster attacks.

Geography

Folkrum is located along Namaku Samudra, nestled in rolling hills adjacent to a pine forest. West of town is a dried-out gully that snakes through the hills for a mile and a half. There is a freshwater spring roughly two miles southwest of town, a good ways into the forest. The most striking piece of terrain around town is Folk's Rock, the harsh rock formation that the villagers live under - it shoots out of the earth at a 30 degree angle and is almost completely flat on top, yet coarse and jagged on the bottom.
