Recap
Our story began with a ragtag group of hired temporary crew members aboard the deck of the Broken Crate while waiting to set off from the
Port of Skyfoss.
Captain Guff McGruff started off introductions by asking each member for their name, some background, and what skills they had to offer.
First off was the mysterious hooded young woman
Annie A. She showed her natural affinity for magic and love of knives along with a useful trick where she produced a magic hand which could perform basic tasks. She didn't have sailing experience and was a bit hedgy with sharing her background, but she definitely seemed like she could handle herself in a fight.
Next was the wizard: tall, broad, and sharply dressed was
Soren Maldrick and his adorable talking pygmy goat. Soren was quite the talker and claimed to be great at managing things, keeping books, and other types of intellectual work. McGruff said while all that sounded useful, that wasn’t his job, and really just wanted Soren to use his bulk to help unload cargo.
Finally was the Nagaji babarian
Varuna whose tough scaled skin and massive fauchard made it clear he was not to be trifled with. He was a man of few words, and when pressed about his background, he simply said he was looking for work--maybe as a bodyguard.
With introductions out of the way,
Captain McGruff called out to his sister
Lota McGruff to join them, and they set off.
The journey to
Port of Eekle was a smooth one at first. As
Annie amusedly waved her mage hand through the clouds the ship sailed through, some dolphins had tagged along in some free time tomfoolery. Annie was inspired by their joy and beauty and moved forward with renewed vigor after the encounter.
Things took a turn on the second night of the journey, when the ship sailed into some dense, dark fog which
Captain McGruff called "shadow fog." The crew took defensive positions and were soon fighting off eels which could swim through the thick fog that covered the deck of the ship. Some blows were exchanged;
Soren looked rather worse for wear, but the crew managed to fend off the eels due to their good positioning and
Varuna's massive blows which became supercharged by Soren's magic.
The crew finally arrived at
Port of Eekle. They helped unload the ship, then headed to the
Rusty Anchor tavern to stretch their legs and kill some time before setting back off that evening. It was here that they first noticed Soren's cat-like eyes and inverted hands--a strange curiosity even in these strange lands. Annie also managed to swindle a gambler who tried to cheat her out of 2 GP.
As they headed on their way back to the ship, they heard tense voices from a dark alleyway and stopped for a closer look. A nervous woman's voice could be heard from around the corner, and two large thugs were talking in aggressive tones and advancing towards her. The group stepped into the alley to intervene...
