Mentality

Personal history

Ludwig was born to a fairly standard Dwarven couple in Menstel, they were more adapted to the surface culture than most Dwarves from the holds. His parents were from the Schildenritter clan, a clan that had moved to the cities of Praxis alongside the Cinderfists once their Ancestor saved the Emperor.
Both of his parents worked at the wall, his father as a guardsman, his mother as a hospice keeper at the Temple of Bahamut, built at the feet of the wall. From a young age he was told stories of Bahamut's greatest champion Drondar Cinderfist and encouraged to step into the service of both Bahamut and Drondar. At his 20th birthday he took the pledges to become a Champion of Drondar Cinderfist alongside other innitiates. He pledged to defend and stand against all evil that would come.
 
In Menstel, the day-to-day life of a guard was pretty tame, the most exciting things that could happen were a thief or a group of criminals trying to scale the walls, things that often led to bad ends for them.
 
Several years passed and the world celebrated as the feared Dominion of the Black was bested, driving them off.. but their warnings of the Great Devourer sent shivers down everyone's spines.
 
A year passed and the very ground and walls of Menstel shook as a fore of... Unknown creatures attacked them, trying to recall the memory is like a haze one cannot see through. The only thing the survivors could recall is the fact the attack was linked to Rovagug. They found out a lot from the damage done but nothing to indicate WHAT these creatures were, neither dragon nor troll, gnoll or known spawn of the Underdark, neither a beast from the Deep.
 
The Wall had fallen once he had come to his senses, woken up in the center of the hospice at the temple, clutching his burn wounds, having scorched into his belly. The metal had partially fused to his skin.
 
He realised that even if he tried to save Menstel, if this Rovagug was to attack again using its legions, they needed experts... from what they DO know Ludwig had been locked in combat with one before he had gone unconscious, counting him as an "expert" for now.
 
He signed up and left most of his belongings he would not need at the temple alongside explanations to his relatives of the Clan as well as his father and mother.
