Got up a bit late today, headed over to Rasputin’s place. On the way there met up with Flux in his fancy new ride. There was a ton of smoke in the neighborhood. I had never seen such a thing, but these huge “fire snakes” were blocking the way. Flux and I fought one on foot, it was pretty tough going. We were victorious but when we saw a bunch of bruisers from the Azorious Senate headed in we decided to bug out.
I had a couple of questions for Cindy on the Sebastian case, so we headed out there. She talked about some of the places they had gone or she had heard him talk about. We went to stop by the church where she worked, but thought better of it before we went in due to Flux’s prior dust up with the pastor Nolan. Skipping the church, Flux and I followed up on the leads but came up totally empty handed.
Flux and I also followed up on the Goblin safe we had previously liberated, we figured out how to open it, and MOTHER LOAD!!! there was a ton of gems. We are seriously rich. Packed the stuff to my apartment, I am not sure what Flux did with his share. Hope he spends some money on security, not just the trappings of wealth.
Modar’s Missing Journal Entry (less lies, more incriminating evidence)
Slept in a little after the fun night last night and headed down to Rasputin’s place nice and early as usual. On the way there, met up with Flux in his fancy ride, but there was a ton of smoke billowing form Rasputin’s neighborhood. As we got close to his place, it seems like someone had set some demonic fire snakes on a mission to kill Rasputin.
We battled the fire snakes, but Rasputin was in rough shape. Flux was a witness, but still it was my chance to finish Raspy before I went the way of my predecessor. Flux could only focus on the gold, and I left Flux arguing with the corpse of the Knight of Shame.
My plan to manufacture some evidence against Nolson was coming along, but we needed his ring to seal the documents. We checked with Cindy under the pretense of finding Sebastian and got Nolson’s address. It was a simple job, use the ring to seal the papers and don’t get caught. The safe he kept his ring is was tough, but I cracked it with magic. Flux’s stupid, greedy Goblin heart showed thorough and he couldn’t stick with the plan. I had to pay him off to keep him from ransacking the stupid safe. At least he counts as poorly as he plans.
One last trick to the dirty deed, we need to add the document to the Church’s files. I thought it would be fairly simple, but the security was pretty tight. We talked about creating a distraction by trashing the place, but I just couldn’t do it. I had to duck out, leaving Flux behind. I knew what he was going to do, but at least I had no hand in it.
After the deed was done I out the documents in place, I tried not to look, but the dead bodies and the destruction of the building let me know we had gone too far.
We slunk off for 1 more errand. Cracking Nolson’s safe, I realized the same technique could be used on the safe in the goblin lair from a few days ago. Upon opening the safe was a set of cards, magical cards. A quick divination and I learned that the cards are extremely powerful, and grant both good fortune and bad. Wisely, I let Flux go first.
Flux contracted for 5 cards, on his second draw a fortune of gems showered down. On the third he disappeared, leaving all of his possessions behind. I don’t know exactly what happened but clearly bad fortune followed the good. Panicking a bit, I locked Flux's stolen goods and clothes in the safe, hid his money and his rings and took the gems to my apartment. Is this punishment for going against the guild, or pure luck? Either way the cards will remain unused until I can get the better of them.
Off to bed, 50k richer, but possibly infinitely poorer – sleep will come slowly I am sure.
