Jetsom from the Harpie's Keening

by Luce

After the fight with , the team assessed the damage: the Shortreef was sinking, and sinking fast. So we scrambled about trying to salvage the ship

We questioned the enemy captain Breakjaw, and it turns out:

  • Lord Rohrouk has a bounty on his head

  • Cassandra has a bounty on his head.

  • It was from here that Rohrouk "enlightened" the party (sans-Luce) as to some of his backstory. We were, suddenly, someone found Capt. Breakjaw's throat slit - someone killed her. We thought about using Eragon as a fake Capt. Breakjaw to try and draw out the murderer, with the help of Twizzer.

In the follow-up search, we found out the Quartermaster Igara can do magic (which labels him as a suspect).

Worried about all of this, everyone (and the body of the dead Capt. Breakjaw) chose to bunk together in Cass' room. It was mentioned that the following morning she'd try to speak with dead.

In the middle of the night, the leader of the Children of Loscipulus Cofsa tried to attack Cassandra. Our mage was too strong for her however, and we ended up chasing her off the ship: only to have Kofsa vanish into the sea. I was the only one to see her leave, in a strange misty form.

    The next day

The party woke up without any further issues.

The watchmen did note however that a member of the crew Dimmy disappeared on watch last night - maybe there's a connection to Kofsa's appearance?

After fetching food, we reconvened again in Cassandra's room, and our beloved seer prepared to speak with the dead

    Questions for the deceased

Through Cassandra, we were able to ask questions to the corpse of Capt. Breakjaw:

Why did you die? (Do you know why?) "I sniffed out your rat problem". What was the nature of your alliance with the Loscipulans? "I did not have one". Who's the rat? "Your chef is one". Who killed you? "The sea witch". What was the rat doing? (What was the 'rat problem'?) "The rat was watching you".

Jumping to Twizzer's defense, Cass believes Cofsa had infiltrated the ship (Dimmy?) and spied on us before killing Capt. Breakjaw. She stated that Cosfa, while engaged in a mental battle, told Cassandra she didn't want to fight her, and that Cofsa was sorry she had to.

To further prove her point, Cassandra explained that the Children of Loscipulus seem to be very interested in spying on other teams: they spied on us back on Forcalish by the library and again (presumably) in this incident.

Tangentially, Rohrouk raised the idea of (eventually) buying the party its own boat, to avoid the "morale problems" of the Shortreef. Luce elaborated with the idea of giving the crew a raise, and the party - with a scared Luce in tow - went to confront the captain about it. We found Capt. Layna Gerats in the quartermaster's cabin recovering from her hangover and late-night-drinking next to Qtrm. Selkasys. Luce stayed outside. All in all, the captain seems surprisingly understanding about everything, citing her father's wisdom on sailing through dangerous waters.

Back to the Sister Isles for repairs

As planned, we headed back to the Sister Isles to repair the Shortreef. While on shore, I purchased two wheels of goat cheese (to appease Twizzer), a set of thieves' tools (suspiciously professional-looking), and I managed to finally rid the group of our sahaguin gemstone (a sell for 250 gp).

On a whim, I asked the group if I should contact Badik for information.

A meeting with Badik on Phecus

The information about the Children of Loscipulus cost us 40gp:

As the start of the odyssey, the Loscupulans left Forcalish and went south.

    They stopped in Teregos,

    then Mikelonia,

before sailing in circles for several weeks (unbeknownst to them) near Cytos.

Eventually, they "found" (and stopped in) Cytos.

Now they're in Kemariki, digging for treasure on an island off the coast. Badik made a comment about the hole being very deep (perhaps because they can't find what they're digging for).

I mentioned that his sources might be off, as Cafsa was able to get to us (and back to her Loscipulans) undetected. On the "validity" of Badik's information: "The information I gave the people who wanted to kill you was clearly very good" (e.g. Cafsa found us without issue).

I did ask Badik what it might cost to keep information off the market: 330gp, per person (so to speak). As the odyssey stands now, Badik is betting on Karakedai & rooting for the Children of Loscipulus.

    Hunting a Monster

After the repairs, we sailed back to the Straits of Himaeus to finally hunt down the sea monster we had been tasked by Kiryntes

    The Hydra
I managed to cut off two of the massive creature's heads, just before four more sprout from the stumps.

    Lord Rohrouk: use fire!
Luce: What do I look like, a mage? Do you have a flaming sword stuck up your ass somewhere?

It was here, then, that Luce died

Soon, Avrios followed to the realm of the dead

A voice called after Luce through the ether:
    "bros, til the very end"
