The night was largely uneventful, and as we woke in the morning Avrios relayed to us all his dreaming of Bahamut the night previous. He claims his god has called himself, the "navigator", and the "doom-driven" to Forcalish. Luckily, we were able to secure passage by the gods through Captain Torment aboard the Sabre, the party on board safely. The captain's route was to the Sister Isles to pick up passengers ("cargo") to deliver to Forcalish, where we were headed.
The first day was uneventful. Shelley up in the crow's nest discovered that the Snapper was trailing behind us, either on the same route or chasing after us.
On the third day, we were attacked. A giant (Huge) reef shark ransacked the hull, taking huge bites of wood out of the ship. Luckily we were able to drive it off; Cass was furious when I dove into the water to fight off the beast. We patched the holes best we could and continued on.
We made good time to the Sister Isles, docking in nearby Durindral. Rohrouk sought a night's rest on the island (while we slept as usually on board) at the well-named Cadfrendel's Rest. There he discovered our passengers: five adventurers under the name the Sister Isles Champions. The group is much-believed in on the small island, and includes:
* John Cadfrendel, a hero of Durindral as the champion of the previous Odyssey
* a wizard, who is rumored to have no magical skill whatsoever
* their leader, a human women who seems capable (if not the only capable member of the "champions")
They are headed to Forcalish to compete in a series of challenges called the Odyssey, and by Rohrouk's reckoning the "champions" are in over their heads: most die in the gauntlet, and their luck seems to be unfortunate as well.
That night off the shore of Durindral, Eragon dreamt of ash and burning forests, with a giant red-eyed wolf appearing in the chaos.
It takes us five days to sail from Durindral to Forcalish. On the second day, Shelley points out to us a stone spire of a mountain that reaches out of the sea and disappears into the sky: Karakedum, the home of the elves.
Forcalish
Forcalish is a beautiful city, a work of art with no constraints and no walls. The largest parts of Forcalish are the twelve marble temples, scattered here and there with no real "center" to the city. After collecting her ~~eight~~ five gold from each passenger, Avrios led the way to Bahamut's walls (with the help of the locals).
The Temple of Bahamut
At the temple we are met by High Priest Herbayer, a wizened dragonborn. He calls Avrios by name, though our friend never met the cleric -- it seemed he had received a sign from Bahamut about Avrios' (and our) arrival. "I am grateful you have arrived; I had begun to worry," the priest tells us:
Avrios and co. are slated to join in the Odyssey at Forcalish. Events begin in less than a week
(~5 days).
Karekedum has a team of champions competing in the Grand Odyssey as well, and Fr. Herbayer "believes" Bahamut is afraid the Karekedai will win, and use their strength to force Teir Shanigray to fold in their war with Karekedum.
At its willing, through the faith of the high priest and Avrios, Bahamut appeared to us in His temple, taking the guise of His statue. He calls us "champions", and foretold that we will gain understanding
when (if) we win the Grand Odyssey.
The Grande Odyssée
The groups competing are five-to-seven strong:
* The 5 of us
* The Karaketai, with 5 warriors and fated to win
* The Sisters Isles Champions, the 5 of which we've met briefly
* The Hunters, from the northern coast frozen and cold
* The Children of Loscipulus, with Kofsa (a dark arcanist
[mage, non-divine] in their midst) and her guards
* The Rustscale Clan, 7 kobolds from Koboldhome
*
The Harpies Keening and its crew from Drostosa
The cost to enter is 2,000gp per head. Each member of the winning group wins 10k gp (assuming five members). There
is an arena we could compete in, or beg a non-represented island to sponsor us.
Also, we need a boat.
Kofsa
One of the more notable medicine women ("cunning woman") from Loscipulus, she is rumored to be a witch
(this is probably true), though not a warrior in any right.
John Cadfrendel
To win his title of champion, John Cadfrendel (and his companions) slew a white dragon and presented its head to the temple, winning the Odyssey. They were:
* Rohanna Lax tiefling cleric of Peylor
* Ratka Rafaela Schmeader gnome, a magician holding strange powers
* human nobleman
* dwarf warrior
