- Natural adversaries temporarily cooperate to visit a Library
Commissar Celestima, who identifies as also being the ancient Sith Empire ship that is probably what we have been calling the Sun Spear, wears a uniform consistent with the First Sith Empire. She is always happy to burn the heretics.
I have done the most convoluted yarnball of Al'Saba School of Diplomacy. I talked a First Sith Empire digital person down from Murderhobo Conquest. I talked a Sargon-serving career naval officer into collaborating, first with me, then with Commissar Celestima. I talked a Death Trooper formerly named Rul Ja into remembering who he was, telling me that he nearly died because of a battle between a Crimson Knight and an Eborrean. He got infected with a parasite.
I think they each nearly killed me five times?
For now, we have a truce between all of us. We are going to take the Sun Spear to one of the Galactic Imperial Library hubs, where a military ship with the proper codes should get priority docking.
- Montage of ship preparation, travel through the Outer Reaches, approach to a free-floating "local branch" of the Galactic Star Empire Library System
Just a quick experiment, we thought. See if the Mentats can make any progress with the palatreum, since I have not managed to get contact with So'Zen for the past couple of weeks.
They wanted me to settle down near the Night Sparrow's hyperdrive, then reach out through the Force to contact So'Zen, who has (supposedly) a connectible palatreum and the knowledge of how to use it.
The Force had other ideas.
— VN Ysadora, summarizing to her Datapad
Time seems to be frozen in this part of space.
- somber image of Cap'n AERENA'Relentless' KOLENE, frozen in time. She is in the cockpit of a starship with design elements similar to Mon Calamari aesthetics. She was suspended while reaching for a control on the console. She is covered in a blue-white energy film.
So is the console.
- Sometimes what we really need is a friend.
- Jedi Knight Vanya Ysadora reaches out for her old friend, both in the Force and physically by lifting her body's hand toward him.
When he joins me in the Farseeing, I explain the problem as much as I currently comprehend it: the equation of reality is stuck. It needs expert mathematics to reconnect it, maybe through Aerena who is all about going forward. Meanwhile, I need to go down the central corridor to find So'Zen and that palatreum.
Shortly:
Captain Kolene, I need you!
- Vanya
No! No, no, no, no. I don't do that. NO
- Aerena Kolene, atheist, is about to wind up having a Very Important Dream
about piloting an entire ragtag fleet out of a cosmic storm
After an unscheduled rest
Commissar Celestime did not care about that briefcase. Therefore, it is smuggling something into the Library Collection.
- The library station suddenly shudders violently from impacts!

Davish and I have been working for the past hour on locating and interviewing other Library staff and patrons who might have been affected by the induced short term memory loss.
Five initiates in total have been affected: four more than Initiate Challa Zanulla. Doctor 2b says this was a mini concussion to the memory cortex.
- medical device? close range pulse gun?
possible medical non-chemical anaesthesia
- time frame between effect and cause? Fairly quick but will take one to two seconds on a typical victim.
Each one has a tiny puncture wound duo, entry point for some sort of venom. 2b believes it is a modified bone worm venom that causes an overload of the nervous system for a second or two.
- where were the punctures?
Shoulder area.
Could be concealed in a bracelet/glove.
- are bone worms exclusively native to Tapani Vor burial worlds?
No.
Patients will recover in, at most, four weeks. including partial recovery of lost memories
- Does this mean the process of recording short term memories was not interfered with, and transfer to long term memory was not interfered with, but only access procedure was bruised?
- Patients were different species, were punctures always at best placement for memory effect?
Same places.
Not most medically efficacious.
Applicator is not a medical expert.
- Have patients been checked for bone worm parasitism?
Yes. No parasites found.

- Davish asked about angle of puncture. We now hypothesize that hunter seekers were used via remote control.
I compare notes with Team Catholic, starting with asking "Heath" about practical means of disrupting function of a Bene Gesserit assassin's favorite tool.
He gives me a light overview of what one needs to know about how the remotes work, in order to avoid getting needled. We jointly conclude that a low grade interference or jamming signal, in pulses, integrated into the library lighting system in all areas including maintenance areas, should give good coverage.
This will have to be authorized by Librarian Roku, of course.
KitKat phrased questions to Librarian Trullum based on some assumptions. He wants "Heath" and me to check these for potential flaws.
Single person
human or near human
has been on station at least a number of days
trained in architectural structure, to know tugs that would provide amt of distraction needed
knew which tugs might be used today but not necessarily which one
knew specifics of sensors and how to foil them
could be a commando with personal combat skills
programming skills for additional program routines
excellent dexterity
possibly has a great deal of practice at extravehicular
possibility of a baffler suit, which requires advanced training
Libarian Roku:
You would not believe the amount of Vor Houses that go out of their way to try to skip out on late fines.
We keep accurate records on who arrives, under what purported identity, and what real identity, in order to track down loaned items.
The tracking device on the artifact containment is good for long range, but not within the Library. Go to Green Sector and speak to Checkmate for further information. "Chex" is very particular about the relic security and tracking system.
The tech team in Green Sector for the Talla Library is five veterans of the Great War:
- Chex
- Knight
- Rook
- Bishop
- Castle
and I gather from context that they were part of the 212th.
During investigation, I find a couple of HKs in one of the weapon lockers. We trace the signal back up to a maintenance locker in the main docking ring. Davish goes to investigate that; there's a relay in there. Davish traces that relayed signal onward to the next daisy in the chain. One line goes into the middle of the library, dead center of the main hall. The other line goes to the escape pods. Davish goes to check the escape pods; Lt. Jessup and I go to play bait at the main hall's center.
The HS in the main room has a gripper attachment, so we find out after we disable its handkerchief-sized baffle cloth and its attack field. Reese and Chex determine that the gripper attachment had a piece of Librarian Roku's hair. It was likely stolen as a means to unlock the stolen container. Meanwhile, the miscreant -- disguised as a Library Initiate -- has escorted Librarian Roku out of the main hall, toward the medical wing, for "a concussion check".
Most Initiates probably do not fire weird green bocce balls of plasma from their fingers, when thwarted.
