Fourteen days 'til on the sea (to Dekeli)
Brom
Brom and Eragon (with sometimes help of Fathom) messed around with Eragon's new
staff of defense. First they tried to transfer the effects of the staff to another -- to no avail -- before Brom
insisted that he show Eragon how to wield a new staff.
Cassandra
Cass offered Twizzer (the rat-chef) her familiar, in cat form. As a pet.
Later, he named the cat Margarine.
Cass had a few visions while using her cards for divination:
- Five figures (the Hunters from the north?) walking through heavy snowfall
- A castle or manor atop a hill, surrounded by forest
- A burnt forest, ash scattered everywhere; in the forest a gigantic tree survives whatever happened there, with a door between its roots built into the trunk.
The Hermit, The Chariot, and
Judgement
She then went to Rohrouk, and after discussing their future travel plans, invoked Luce's sword of
spiritual weapon. Rohrouk spoke to her, insisting that she must understand a sword is used to kill. And if she wants to learn how to handle Luce's sword, she must be willing to kill another creature.
Later, Cassandra reached out (via magic) to Leela, a priestess of the Raven Queen. Among other things, Leela knows the ink-black sea and the last living people who traversed it -- Deltavros and his mariners.
Eragon
Fathom
The face that launched a thousand ships. The monk that everyone wants to f**k.
Fathom asks Eragon for an eyepatch, but then sees something he wishes he had never seen (been reminded of).
Rohrouk
In his readings, Rohrouk read up on Dekeli in a non-Dekeli (non-lizardman) history book. There's not much (he didn't already know).
The Storm
About X days into the trek, the
Shortreef was truck by a terrible storm. Most everyone, including Brom, was cowering in fear in their own way.
After the storm, the
Shortreef arrived in Dekeli. Since everyone was to remain on board, Brom returned to his/Eragon's room to enjoy the solitude (When Rohrouk amended his statement -- "warmbloods can stay in the harbor"" -- he returned to the group abovedeck).
For Rohrouk, the scaled lord has returned home.
There are also elves docked in the harbor.
Dekeli
Everywhere, seemingly, structures or buildings or
something was gilded in gold. The lizardmen here use enormous reptiles to either ride or carry heavy loads.
We (minus Rohrouk, off to do his own thing) explored on our own; we first went to seeking magical items. Finding none after a few hours, we instead sought a few bites to eat, settling in on Dekali chocolate (Aztec) and a dessert called "cheesecake".
In the meanwhile, Rohrouk entered the city to get some intel and "work" done. He was stopped by royal guards; it turns out his house was accused of anti-imperialism (seceding from the empire) and as a result has been stripped of all noble privilege. A childhood friend, Dilzanir Doranis, slipped Rohrouk a note (signed
-A) to tell him of a secret meeting that night -- and to bring the "outsiders" with him. Notably, he has lost all composure.
When he came to us, Brom (and others) could kind of tell something's up.
"I've been banished" -- much to (Ryan's) Brom's delight. Once more, Cassandra and Brom fought over how to treat Rohrouk, basically. He gave up and just let things happen as they would.
Night at the tavern
That night, as the party met up for the elves to "meet" Cassandra, Brom watched. Fathom requires zero effort, of course, to attract anything with a pulse. After a few hours of drinking and reveling, Rohrouk took us to the meeting at the edge of the city...
Clandestine
We snuck our way out of Dekeli into the jungle; eventually through the overgrowth and animal calls we came upon a strange cult-like meeting around a statue. They were praying bowed, clearly
tezkeleh, Later Cassandra -- after casting
comprehend languages -- would tell us the group was druidic, chanting about the changing of flesh. After a while, as we watched, we saw the leader of the ritual transform into a larger, horrific creature. Once changed, it spoke to its followers of its new "gift" to the faithful.
Then, our presence was noticed.
