5th of Lowsun (excerpts from the journal of Silas)
I camped alone tonight. Me, a campfire, the ring spinning above me. Just us and thousands of stars.
I wonder if Tellandria ever feels lonely. A planet flying around in a night amongst the stars. I mean, it is surrounded by so many extraterrestrial bodies but it isn't the same as the stars. Stars share their light, their rays traveling across galaxies and the cosmos to bring illumination and warmth. Planets just reflect light though. Planets have a harder time being themselves.
Planets do have their own light though. It has magma circulating through the heart of its core. On stormy nights, lightning streaks across its sky, maybe even striking, causing wildfires that forage across the plains, razing the earth, bringing nutrients to the soil. I remember one summer, we had been staying in the woods west of Sorewood, when a solitary light appeared in the distance. As that singular radiant point manifested, another followed and another and then another. --- The little insects moved between the trees, hanging delicately in the air.
Planets have their own light. It is just different from the light of the stars.
