Exosuit

The Hasedar XR-990α is the first combat exosuit designed with the needs of a Mage in mind. Pursue the big questions without fear thanks to mentally-indexed libraries available in the heads-up display; catalogued material components available for quick retrieval; and programmable gestures that can be activated at the speed of exosuit combat for truly efficient spellcasting. If you're a Mage in need of protection, look no further than your local Hasedar retailer.

Utility

Exosuits were the natural evolution of personal combat, with emphasis on the classic forms of force: strength, speed, and durability. As materials science and engineering progressed through the 2900s, an exosuit-clad humanoid became able to outrun most chemically-driven weapons (e.g., firearms, rockets) and easily deflect electromagnetic radiation (e.g., laser cannons). This evolution of armor forced a paradigm shift of antipersonnel weaponry as well, with combatants favoring melee weapons, typically of superheated plasma, and projectiles launched by powered tension draws, such as advanced bows and crossbows.

Manufacturing

There are six major manufacturers of exosuits, with numerous illegal knockoffs and shady off-brands picking up the slack and filling their own niche. These brands are:
  • Staedt-Gregorivich, Incorporated
  • NGE (Naiad Graves Everstone)
  • Boeing Technology
  • Krestor Engineering
Access & Availability
The cost of an exosuit is prohibitive for a laborer, but inexpensive for a noble. Since the vast majority of private-sector exosuit purchases are for mercenaries, many manufacturers have offered payment plans or license agreements for a fraction of each mission's gross pay.
Complexity
Each line of exosuit, being geared towards various needs, has an almost unique set of advanced components used in its construction. For example, the Krestor RR-X "Barbarian" line of combat suits focuses on active ablative armor, a feature that can't be found in other popular exosuits. Within a given line, there are multiple outfits of supplemental and optional gear. The Staedt-Gregorivich TR2 "Fighter" suit, for example, being designed for military applications, is modular enough to load in advanced archery targeting software, enhanced coordination and balance for dual-wielding, enhanced armor, or fair-play dueling checks. It even has an option to pack a HUD spell library; suits with this feature are nicknamed "Eldritch Knights."
Discovery
Exosuits were invented in the 21st c. to aid primarily in industrial heavy lifting. They were weaponized in the 24th c., but saw little practical use before the 30th c., when their speed crossed a threshold that revolutionized antipersonnel and personal combat.
