Neneth
“Hatred is a violent Inferno which consumes all it touches,”
“and foolish is the one who would attempt to douse fire with flame.”
Neneth is one of the 5 Ancestral Dragons, the direct descendants of Tiamat and Gods of The Ruumush Amat, the predominant faith amongst members of The Draconid Strain. She is most commonly associated with loyalty, honor, protection, good health, as well as honorable warfare and familial bonds.
“and foolish is the one who would attempt to douse fire with flame.”
Depiction:
Neneth is most commonly depicted as a massive, bulky dragon with strong and defined muscles, a long thick tail ending in a bladed tip, powerful claws and a vicious, snapping turtle like maw. Her scales are thick, smooth and metallic, blending from a copper-red at her head into a sandy brown towards her tail.Contrasting against her strong, bulky body are her 4 majestic feathered wings, the feathers blending from a burgundy red at the root to a snowy white at the tips. Neneth’s usual depictions convey a general sense of Strength, Reliability and Endurance, while not making her appear overly intimidating or monstrous.
Personality:
As the Eldest of her 5 siblings, Neneth incorporates that role to the fullest extent. She can be kind and nurturing, yet stern and disciplined, an example of what all Draconids should strive to be. Numerous stories exist of Neneth aiding her faithful in their time of need, a lone virtuous warrior being granted the strength to protect his tribe, a worried mother being given the medicine for her sickly son, or even 2 lost lovers being guided back together by her hand. Neneth in more ways than one embodies the Ideal Draconid, she is strong and disciplined, capable and willing to do her duty, yet caring and wise enough to understand that the circumstances are different for everyone, which prevents many people from achieving these lofty Ideals. Many theologians understand Neneth as the stabilizing force to her more willful mother, smoothing over the waves in the background, both in her family, and between the faithful. It is for all these and many more reasons that Neneth has as of current day gathered by far the largest following of any Deity in The Ruumush Amat.Relations:
Followers and Worship:
It is no secret that since Tiamats drop in worshippers following the fall of The Draconid Empire, Neneth has picked up the mantle of Prime Deity of The Ruumush Amat in all but name. She has by far the largest following, in part due to her propagation of universal values such as duty, honor and the fostering of familial ties, in part due to her characterisation of a forgiving, loving, maternal figure. Another reason is her broad appeal: Soldiers and Warriors pray to her for luck in battle, mothers pray to her for the good health of their children and farmers pray to her for a good harvest. Neneth also has a sizable following on non-Draconids, as even people outside of Draconid societies can see her appeal. To summarize, Neneth has a broad following made up of a wide variety of people from a wide spectrum of social classes, locations and even strains. Neneth is not very selective about the way she demands people pray or make offerings, it is the intent that matters after all, but she is most commonly called upon for good health, good luck or to bless a marriage (with many children).
Such pleas are usually accompanied by offerings of incense, small trinkets, religious carvings and, for some reason, milk products. Ever since Neneth’s popularity has soared and Tiamats has waned, there have been countless theories as to why, most of which are of course viewed as heretical by the orthodox canon.
One of the most popular of these theories is known as “The Night of the Black Flames”, which states that Neneth deemed her mothers unpredictable and violent nature too dangerous for both her followers and siblings, and as such aided Zargoran in Tiamats murder, to then claim the Throne of the Mother of Dragons for herself.
Tenets:
Be the Bulwark: “The World is cold and dark and cruel, and few have the strength to face its dangers alone. It shall therefore fall to thee to uphold what is right, to be the Bulwark against terror, the light in the darkness and the hearth to warm the weary.”Cast no Judgement: “Hatred is a flame that burns bright, but the brightest flames are the first to fade, and in their wake they leave naught but ash.”
Foster the Bonds: “Be they forged through hardship, love or blood, it is our Bonds that grant us Strength, for it is them that grant our actions meaning.”
