Ark/Roots

Roots or Arks are hot spots of anomalous activities on the earth's surface. The term "roots" comes from the shape of these aberrant locations that create a fractal root-like pattern when mapped out, with areas of effect being shallow but spanning several miles in length that might split or converge into other anomalous areas. since the span of these locations can differ from a few miles to the span of an entire city, they are often referred to as ravines, streams, or chasms according to their size and length. The various natural disasters that forced the The great migration were understood as such early on in this calamity when the main danger was a more natural phenomenon. It was not until the arrival of the accended and demons that a few of these places would come to be called "Arks"

The Term "Arks" is the name for places within these roots that harbor both the seemingly innocent ascended animals found across the earth or the dangerous nightmarish abominations threatening all life. The more habitable arks are home to slight mutations that cause animals to ascend. The more hostile arks are home to ever-changing topography, time-space anomalies, like Simulacrums/Haunts and Tera portal s and the dangerous abominations that threaten humanity. These are home to most Arkkin as well. 
Arks are not fully understood, but there are clear connections to what were highly populated areas and where roots themselves manifested with the most frequency size, and anomalous activity. What little is understood about these locations is that Aberrant energy within these locations not only influence the environment in different ways, but they fundamentally alter the genetic code of every living being thus leading to the many Abominations/Demons and Angels/ Guardian beasts / Spirits and to a lesser degree the many evolved and intelligent animals that exist on abberant earth.
As a rule of thumb, all arks are within roots, but not all roots are considered arks if there is little to no population of aberrant beings. All roots are affected differently by aberrant energy, with some being safer than others and not hosting every anomalous effect.
