The Solar Gods

"As the sun traverses across the sky, we all know that the benevolent solar Gods and our devoted ancestors look down upon all of the goodly people of Achnelia. The sun provides life and cool light for us to see and allows all to grow strong. Surely these are the Gods we should follow in gratitude for such great gifts." -Aldoniss Longleaf, Half-Elvish High Priest of Zimmer   Much of this is true. The Solar Gods of Chafta, Fabenta, Nurn, Pottre, Varian, Xotan Tekli, and Zimmer reside on the sun which rises over Achnelia every morning. Mortal followers of the Solar Gods are encouraged to participate in The Great Game, those souls who help improve the score of their Solar Patron are said to be rewarded in the afterlife.   The promise of paradise everlasting, the light of the sun and the fact that the Solar Gods tend to represent things important to mortals like life, healing and work gives rise to the idea that the Solar Gods are ‘good’. But it is a mistake to think that the Solar Gods are any more benevolent than the Lunar Gods. The Solar Gods strategy to win the (Great Game) is to use the mortals to collect souls on their behalf, offering a paradise for proselytising and spreading their faiths. What the solar gods share and why they can coexist so happily on the sun is their interest in the personal lives of mortals. They enjoy watching and observing mortals, as the sun shines down them and their Celestial servants watch the mortal world as entertainment to pass their days.   They also respect the free will of these mortals and prefer not to directly intervene to help or hinder them, instead of relying on their followers to act on the world on their behalf, they are even reluctant to use their Celestial servants to intervene and mainly send them to spur a mortal to action, rather than to directly interfere.
