Dalindrean

Dalindrean1 is language of the Dalindreans, dwarven inhabitants of Dalindren in the eastern Zóken Mountains, a vassal state of the Kingdom of Faron. It's closely related to Fazeronian, spoken by the Fazeronians in the western Zóken Mountains, and more distantly to Refonian and the various dialects still in use by the Dvarrans to the east and northeast, respectively, all of which descend from Katargysian, once spoken in western Gysikan to the north.
Unlike fazeronian, which is restricted to the mountains, dalindrean is spoken by many non-dwarven subjects of the kingdom, notably scholars of the arcane in the capital of Heknalis and the northern provinces, where it rivals Þinninún, the more traditional language used by the faronian mages, especially when it comes to the subjects of magic crystals, enchanted weapons and arms.

Writing System

Dalindrean is both written using a more traditional runic alphabet as well as desa, an alphabet used by the Faronians. Many monuments and inscriptions in Varkalis, capital of Dalindren, are written using both alphabets, but desa is almost exclusively used to write dalindrean elsewhere in Faron.
Dalindrean runes are almost identical to those used by the fazeronians, safe for a few slightly different letters, and like the latter features letters made entirely with dots and straight lines to ease etching them into stone, crystals and other hard surfaces. A horizontal row of three dots is placed between each word, and a horizontal line indicates the end of a sentence.

Vocabulary

While it closely resembles fazeronian in terms of grammar and basic vocabulary, dalindrean vocabulary is far more influenced by faronian and -to lesser degree- various gysikani languages, as the dalindreans are far more involved with the rest of Faron and beyond than their more conservative cousins. This has also affected the general accent, especially among the younger generation.
