Mortal Kingdom

Demography and Population

The Mortal Kingdom is home to most of the races in Aerenal. After the Incursion the individual kingdoms that used to exist on the western half of Aerenal were destroyed and their populations scattered. With much of the land they used to occupy split away to make the Border Continent and their population numbers down and entrance to the Elven Kingdom forbidden, the races of western Aerenal banned together to form a new kingdom on the land that was left. All sentient races are allowed to petition to join the kingdom and by this point most have, with a few exceptions. The goblinoid races have long refused to join as it would mean being forced to follow a code of law. The orcs have refused as well for similar reasons. The tabaxi prefer to live nomadic lives in the Southern Jungles and Great Desert, but maintain diplomatic and trade relations with the Mortal Kingdom. The Yaun-ti have interest in only their god and the destruction it demands they wreak and have likewise refused to join. The Elves have their own kingdom up north.

Territories

The Mortal Kingdom takes up the Western half of Aerenal and stretched from the Great Desert to the north and the Southern Jungles to the south.

Military

The Mortal Kingdom has a standing army, but no sea force. The Navy is the power on the sea.

Technological Level

Technology is severely limited by the Navy and the general distrust of new technology due to the Incursion. Instead the Mortal Kingdom focuses on magic and medicine.

Religion

The Mortal Kingdom allows practitioners of all religions within their borders, so long as no one else gets hurt. There is no official religion because all serious religious matters are expected to be handled on the Holy Plains.

Foreign Relations

The Mortal Kingdom maintains diplomatic and trade relations with the Tabaxi tribes to their north and south. The goblinoid and orc races and seen as minor dangers and annoyances. The only contact the Mortal Kingdom really has with the Elven Kingdom is the goods that are shipped out via the Tabaxi tribe in the desert and the occasional elf that travels outside the kingdom.

Agriculture & Industry

The Mortal Kingdom is within a large forest. Most of their agriculture is in the form of orchards, though there are some farms that burn down areas in which to plant fields. This practice is heavily controlled to avoid destroying to much of the natural forest. The Mortal Kingdom also has a thriving metal and forging industry and supplies much of the forged items for the Holy Plains and the Southern Jungles.

Trade & Transport

The Mortal Kingdom trades directly with the Holy Plains and indirectly with the Southern Jungles and Elven Kingdom via the Tabaxi tribes.

Education

There are schools set up in most of the major cities in the Mortal Kingdom, though the smaller, more rural areas have less access to formal education. Most people still know how to read at some level.
Capital

Monarchy, Constitutional
Currency
This country, like most of Aerenal uses the standard copper, silver, gold coins.
Major Exports
The Mortal Kingdom exports refined goods to the Holy Plains and Southern Jungles and some fruit to the Elven Kingdom.
Major Imports
The Mortal Kingdom imports many agricultural items from the Holy Plains and many luxury goods and art pieces from the Elven Kingdom and some raw material from the Southern Jungles.
Legislative Body
The mortal kingdom is ruled by a monarch who has a advisory council. The next ruler is chosen by the current ruler and must be of a different race than the current ruler. This is meant to keep any one race from gaining too much power. The council is made up of representatives from each race.
Judicial Body
The judicial system is built similarly to the legislative system. Great care is taken to make sure that each race has an equal number of judges in the capital city, though this care does not necessarily extend to other cities and towns outside the capitals direct control.
