Goldtome Centre

Purpose / Function

This is the school, library, and community centre all in one.  It houses a small school, that has a couple teachers, including Moberly Finch, a very intelligent and capable young man.  The Goldtome is very proud that almost all of its citizens can at least read and write Common, including all the children.     The Library was stocked by books from Lord Galfreh's collection, as well as any books or maps that Moberly can get his hands on from traveling bards, merchants, or sages.  Considering it is a small farming town, Harvestshield has a good collection of maps, scrolls, and information on a variety of subjects.   The community centre makes up the main floor of the building, and is used as a central gathering place for the citizens of Harvestshield.  Dances, town gatherings, and celebrations all happen in the community centre.  Weddings, graduation, birthday parties, and various other town events take place in the large and open ballroom.  It is also equipped with a kitchen, a cloak room, and a small area for quiet time if needed in between events.

Architecture

The Goldtome is one of the few buildings made of stone foundation, but the second and third level are made of wood and a double-thatched roof.  Large lattice windows let a lot of light into the first floor, but the top two floors have shuttered windows.   The double-thatched roof has been treated with a special compound created by Moberly to keep it more secure, and he has reinforced the walls of the northwest section, where his laboratory is housed.

Tourism

While it may have an excellent library, very few people spend much time in it, as the assumption is there is not much use to it for those seeking knowledge.   There is not much use for the building outside of the residents of Harvestshield, who use the community centre and the school most often.
