The Hiemel Revelry
Occurring near the date of the winter solstice, The Hiemel Revelry is the winter holiday that many in The Continent celebrate, originating from the elves of The Ithryl Woods. The date itself is noted as being Saol, the First Mortal's, birthday, also technically making it the day that mortals were created. Although the date itself has been long since debated, the day of celebration has stuck, causing it to be the most well known date of Saol's birth.
The day itself is known to be largely celebrated in central and southern Andoria (The Continent), with it being celebrated largely in Alderhardt, The Ithryl Woods, The Tirmari Archipelago and Sahrian Union. Even many of the city states in Feywild celebrate the holiday, due to its elven roots. The civilisations that come from outside of the Continent, such as the The Martéan Empire or the many creatures of the Slezech Wetlands, are largely not aware of the holiday, and do not celebrate it as a result. Due to strained relations with the elves, the dwarves of The Foghorn HIlls do not celebrate the holiday, despite its international appeal.
The Holiday is meant to be a celebration of life and the beginning of mortal life in the world. The holiday is called a revelry all it is meant to be the day that you live life to its fullest, as well as celebrate those that you appreciate in your life, causing many to buy gifts and such for others. For children, it is a day for receiving gifts and playing, but for most adults, it is a day of partying and drinking.
History
The day itself became a holiday several centuries after the Eladrin came to the Material Plane through the discovery of the Rift Tree near Ellhesari. They had theorised about the beginning of mortal life, and their theories had been confirmed after discovering Saol's Grove. After hundreds of years, and celebrating the alleged birthday of Saol, the holiday began to spread throughout the Continent, as the elves spread their influence throughout the land.
