Tremaine Manor

More a castle than a manor house, Tremaine Manor stands at the east edge of Phandalin on a low hillside amid woods and thickets. The ancient manor has long been abandoned, but its cellars have been converted to a hideout for a gang of thugs and ruffians called the Red Hand.

Purpose / Function

Tremaine Manor was once home to the Laird of Clan Tremaine. The Laird was the ruler of the lands surrounding Phandalin and benefactor to the village itself.

Architecture

The manor house is a multi-room single level building with a stone foundation and wooden balloon frame structure. The remains of the second floor attic have collapsed in places and are unreachable or unsafe. The rest of the manor is in poor shape and would be unlivable.

History

The Manor House served as the focal point for the village of Phandalin and the nearby areas for most of its use. The locals Lairds of Clan Tremaine were charismatic and good benefactors, treating everyone with grace and kindness over the centuries.    When the Hard Times hit, the Laird and his family fell on hard times (as did everyone in the Trotternish. Without viable offspring, the family line died and the manor house was abandoned.    The house fell to ruins and the people of the area ignored or generally avoided the building.   Recently the ruins (and the cellars underneath) have been inhabited by the Red Hand.
