Ancalagon the Rock of the West

the Watcher in the Mountains

Like many of the great Dragon of the world, Ancalagon's name has spread across the major continent of Ethae in legend and tales. Unlike the other dragons however, who's tales usually corroborate with one another, Ancalagon seems to have more conflicting tales than matching. She is a Brass Dragon of a very old age. She dwelt in Tinjir, most likely in the Areian Peaks of Lhakamed. She appeared to kings throughout the Farlands, seemly randomly to give advice. Those that ignore her words rarely have a second encounter. This is nearly all that is concrete in the stories.

The first documented sightings of Ancalagon come near the beginning of the Novyum, making her over 800 years old. The few records of conversation with her, where her conversation partner is brave enough to ask her age, results in vague answers. She claims to be old enough to have seen mountains rise from dust and that she has cried as oceans died. Legends claim she was involved in Dragonfall to some degree or other. There are stories that her first encounter with the Elf was in Megiddo, where she appeared, surrendering to the elves in penance for the crimes of her kind. To this she claims that she and the elves do no 'get along.' There is a tale of her slaying Pakhanga the Black Death. In response to thos she states she has never meet the, still very much alive, monster. Nor would she ever want to meet him.

She is most active in the historical record during the years after the decline of United Kingdoms of Novyum, when Tinjir was transitioning from subjected state to a free land. According to contemporary writes, the dragon was a companion of Tolen Soter, advising him in his reign over the Farlands. After his passing, she seemed to withdraw from the public eye once more, only appearing occasionally to his descendants and other leaders for the afore mentioned advice giving. She disappeared just over one hundred years ago, never to be seen again. At least in recorded history. There are occasional rumors of her appearing to help the common folk over the years. If these are just the rambling of the simple folk wanting to feel relevant or a truth of the dragon's fate is yet to be seen.
