Brass Dragon
Anbar Dragon
Brass dragon color ranges from the light brass color, to a darker near metallic brown color of antique brass. They hatch with a dull brown coloring to their scales that will become more polished and reflective over their life. It is the oldest that are the lightest in color, some almost appearing gold in color. Their wings are wide and long, attached at the shoulder and growing along the body to the tip of the tail, often compared to a manta ray. It is their heads that make them distinct. In leu of horns the brass dragon grows large, curved plates on either side of their head. Experts in these kinds of Dragon can tell the lineage of the brass by the shape of these plates, as each line will have its own subtle, but unique design.
These dragons are more commonly known as Anbar dragon, or desert dragons, as they are native to the Western Reach of Ethae. According to their own history, their ancestors, birthed from the womb of Aldern herself, came to this land when it was still covered in Karasaanu, the Great Forest of the West. Here they lived in harmony with the Karasaanu that rose in their domain. These dragons also claim, as do their descendants, that they fought alongside the Elf in Dragonfall against the other dragons of the world. For which they were slaughtered, by other dragons and by elf. Few elven warriors survived to be witness wither the brass dragons stood with them or not. Today, if there are any elf or dragon that survived Dragonfall and the ages, they have nothing to say on the matter.
After Dragonfall the surviving brass remained in their homeland, though it was shifting for tropical forest to harsh desert. The dragons adapted, learning to survive, and thrive in this new environment. They have also learned to use this inhospitable to their advantage, staying far from civilization of elves and humans. As such, brass dragons, of all dragons besides greens, may have the largest population of living dragons (estimations put it at about 20 brass across Anbar), hidden deep in the desert.
Brass dragons are some of the most social of dragonkind. They seek community and communication. There is a saying on the streets of Api, in the Kingdom of Bronze, "Be kind to talkative strangers, for you might just find a dragon sharing wisdom." This comes for the legends that dragons will transform themselves into human and blend into Human societies. While some dragons do this to hide from those that hunt them, while staying connected to the world, the brass do it to feed their very nature. They love to talk, learn, teach, and discover. Brass dragons will come out of the desert, transform into a human and travel the lands to meet and see. Some staying in this form for years.
While most in Tinjir and the nations of the Craddle Valley view these ideas as folklore, but a positive thing if true, there is a dark side to this habit of the dragons. Some brass dragons will take, voluntarily or involuntarily, a favored human back to their lairs. People that are often never seen or heard from again. The dragon does not see this as kidnapping, but rather gracing the taken human with life with the dragon. This person will spend days, months, and even years with the dragon as it shares it knowledge with him or her. The person is well looked after, feed and kept healthy, but will often eventually die of old ages as the dragon's knowledge can take more than a human lifespan to share. This is rare, however, as most dragons are content to sneak around human societies to share and learn.
Where other dragons may have a love of Gold, brass dragon's love art such paintings and tapestries that can hang in their lair are favored. They treasure furniture, such as chairs and couches, art in their opinion created by mankind to bring ease and comfort to their world. Watch out for that talkative stranger who is overly fascinated by a common stool and its workings. It might just be a brass dragon in disguise.
The communitive brass dragon is the epidemy of lovers not fighters. They would rather talk their way out of a fight rather than have one. If forces, they are still dragons and deadly but are considered the weakest of the dragons if comparing it and any other dragon in a one-on-one fight. If threated with a foe that can overpower them, they would much rather use all the communication skill they have and get their 'friends' to fight the battle instead. It is reasonable to think the old wizard in the corner booth of the tavern that just hired adventures to slay a monster or two just might be a brass dragon looking to get rid of its competition in the region.
