Hamil Myth in Aldern | World Anvil

Hamil

the Silver Bear

Hamil was a great bear, as large as a mountain some claim, that dwell in the land of the Elder Tree known as Onoma. The tree choice Hamil as its Narasan. Hamil was said to travel the edge of Onoma's territory in southern Novyum tracking and watching the hunters of the land. He never approached and would disappear quickly when spotted. The civilizations of the land always felt watched out in the wilderness. It became common practice to sacrifice hundreds of mach annually to the great Silver Bear.

According to every legendary account a mysterious Magic plague spread through the lands around Onoma, corrupting or killing any in its path. Though the trees Mantle protected it and its environs, Hamil was corrupted. The bear entered the Mantle, killing many and spreading the plague within. Hamil attacked Onoma, ripping and clawing much of the tree's upper reaches away. As the tree died so too did Hamil, with claims of the then monstrous grizzly falling from the tree to its death, its supernatural nature drained away with Onoma's death. One local legend claims that Lake Onam was created from this impact.
