Immaru Mushroom
the Light of the Mountain
Found throughout the Night Below, the immaru mushrooms are small luminous fungi that was discovered in the Cutting Mountains, early in history. Some legends claiming their origin to be the mythical valley of Bad Enman Anna.
They grow naturally in caves near the surface and are their cap ranges in size from what is described as an average Human finger tip, to the size of a fist. When plucked from their growth their glow vanishes within seconds. As do they also, when exposed to sunlight. Master Dwarf horticulturalist are skilled in transplanting and moving these mushrooms without damaging their ability to produce light.
Depending on the region of the mountains, one could find various colors, with red and orange colors common in the east, yellows and greens in the central mountains, and rich blues found in the western and caverns of the Mountains of Poe. Beyond the Cutting Mountains violet is the most common, especially in the Underdeep of Anbar. It is popular among both the Dwarf and Juhl'are to cultivate new hues for their settlements, with some of these locations being known for their unique lighting.
Immaru mushrooms struggle to grow in Novyum. Those that have managed to grow the mushroom, no matter the color strain grown, will fade to white in a short time. The land itself seeming to bleed out the colors. The color never returns, even if transplanted back to its original location. This discovery has led to a lucrative business as those able to raise a surviving white mushroom will find a ready market of buyers for such a rare, extremely useful, treasure.
