Khavit Cavern (kah HAHV et)

Second Hearth

Khavit Cavern, was a great deep cavern in the depths of Maarm Mountain of the Cutting Mountains range on the major continent of Ethae. Khavit was said to have been filled with a Myces Mushrooms forest and gentle rivers running through full of cavefish. The cavern was dimly lit by Immaru Mushroom.

Khavit is considered by the Dwarf as their homeland. Thier legends may speak of origins in the mythical land of Bad Enman Anna, mining copper and smelting it with the Dragon, but Khavit Cavern is where the Kephic Empire began.

It the dwarf traditions, the ancient world was covered in ice, glaciers covered the mountains, and the people struggled to survive. Added to this danger, the dragons of the world hunted them. Guided, according to these traditions, by a divine light, Clan Matu and Clan Sadu found a cave into a glacier where the melting runoff flowed. Following this to the bottom of the ice they found a hole in the rock that the river continued into. Deep in this cave at the heart of Maarm Mountain the dwarves found the vast Khavit Cavern.

The cavern was warm, filled with light and food, a true divine gift for the starving, nearly lost people. The dwarves build up a home in the cavern with the Matu building on the cavern floor, and the Sadu carving homes within the rocks of the wall. As the world above warmed and thrived once more, so to did the dwarves below it. From Khavit the dwarven people spread and conquered the Cutting Mountains, creating the Kephic Empire. They tunneled and mined the range's depth creating Waterdeep and the Night Below. From Khavit the dwarves transformed the mountains and their world.

At the height of their power, the dwarves, along with Elf allies came to the zenith of their power in Magic and technology. The two peoples, working together, were able to raise mountains into the sky. Their first choice was Maarm Mountains, as a tribute to the dwarves' past, and a symbol to their new future. This failed, however. Maarm rose, crumbled, and exploded, sending debris across the continent. Though they would try again and succeed, the people had lost their sacred homeland, the heart of their people's nation.

Khavit remains in the hearts and tales of the dwarves in the modern day. Parents tell of the cavern to their children. A story of determination and never giving up hope no matter how dark the world seems. A tale of humble beginnings, for out of one cavern an empire that has outlasted all others was born.
