March of Festine
the Island Shield
The March of Festine is the northern most province of the kingdom of Toemanshire in the Tinjir region in the Western Reach of Ethae. The march makes up the whole of the island known as Oberun's Isle that sits off about 20 miles north, off the coast of Lhakamed, where the kingdom is located. The march has never been a major location throughout the kingdom's history, its main port, Festine Fortress, little more than a resort town for nobles of the kingdom. Its larger population are sheep herders and farmers that have little contact with the world beyond their island. The island only real significance is as a buffer to mainland Toemanshire's only major port, and its capital, Tomaton. Several watchtowers were located around the island coast to watch and signal the mainland if sea invasion comes.
Invasion did come to Toemanshire, but it came from the south, out of the desert, as an Orc horde overran the land. The inhabitants of Festine didn't even hear about the invasion until refugee ships ported, fleeing from the invaders. An orc fleet out of the Scaro Wilds landed soon after, with the refugee ships only just escaping, thanks to the watchtowers detecting the attack and giving time for the retreat.
The March was the first stop of the returning King Wilhelm Alyster and his armies to retain his lands. The returning king used Festine Fortress as a launching point for his mainland assault. Back in Human hands, with a small garrison of troops, the island is recovering from years of orc occupation. The survivors are trying hard to return to the way their world was before the lives were turned upside down.
