Mons Drakens
Mount Dragon
Mons Draken is a large mountain, and its surrounding range, in the Areian Peaks of Lhakamed on the major continent of Ethae. Standing near, and along the path that Mons Bonos' ridge follows has led to speculation that the mountain was once part of the range given its similar height. Advocates for this theory believe the Redhand River cut the range in half as it flowed down from the higher mountains in the west, curving around Mons Drakens before cutting away the eastern range as it flows to Tobia's Gulf. Opponents to this theory point to the fact that the deep river valley, even upstream is lower than the mountains, so could never flow and erode the range. Either way, Mons Drakens stands as a marker between the western Areian Peak and the eastern. Standing in isolation as the river curves around it.
Despite its name, little evidence of any Dragon activity can be found on the mountain. Explorers and adventerures have searched for lairs, and bones, to little avail. This despite many tavern tales of dragon lairs in the mountain, from which the creatures would fly down and menice towns. These tales end with a shining hero coming to slay the dragon. Some point to the name of the mountain, Mons Drakens meaning Mount Dragon, as proof of these tales. Others claim the tales are the result of the name, with drunk sailors hearing the name and creating tales around it.
These tales aside, Mons Drakens is a largely unremarkable mountain in the range. Only its location as the Redhand River curves around it making it stand out among the many peaks. It geography is rough and weathered. The southern regions are dry and rocky, while the northern regions, though arid, has patchy alpine forest valleys.
