Pleata Fields (PLEE tah)
the Bridge to New Open
The Pleata Fields are roughly one hundred and fifty miles of grassy lowlands that run up the west side of the Nopum Peninsula adjacent to the Balinak Range of mountains. Though its extreme northern location on the major continent of Ethae means colder weather and harsh winters, the Pleata Fields are dotted with farming villages in the relatively flat landscape. Aurochs herding is a staple of life, and the region is famous for its butter production and cheese. The sandy dunes along the coastlands make for difficult conditions to build fishing towns, though many wealthy New Open nobles and merchants own lands and villas along these coasts, dwelling in them during the warmer summer months.
At the southern end of the Pleata Fields stands Mount Sessil a divider between Nopum and the Heartlands of central Novyum. While the Nopeli have long been involved in the politics of the Heartlands, it is this divider that is a tangible sight to remind them they stand apart from the center Novyum. A fact in the modern day the people come to enjoy as they continuedly hear stories of bloody uprisings and civil wars throughout the once civilized south.
