Reginard made a deal with a Demogorgon to give him near invincibility for many years. In return, he was to perform a ritual to help The Prince of Demons to ascend to the mortal plane. The barbaric ritual required Reginard to sacrifice all his children, save one his only daughter with Malora Gilly. His wife Malora Boulderhill on discovery he has slayed one of his bastard children in a bombing during the Revelry Jubilee hid Gilly away from him to keep her safe from his chaos. Malora with the help of Vassels from the Nine created a protection on Gilly and her siblings so Reginard could not locate them. In a rage and in desperation Reginard killed Malora thinking it would lift the magic. He was wrong.
This was part of the catalyst that led Gilly Button to confront her father. After reading a Letter sent to her before her death to explain Malora's actions. Gilly with the help of The Path of Nightshade stopped Reginard from assisting the Demogorgon from accending and slayed him at the foot of the alter that was meant for Gilly during the ritual.
