Market District of Lor'Thal
The Market district of Lor'Thal is one of the few places around the city where you will find non-elven people and is considered the central economic district of the Elven Capital.
The roads are lined with vendors plying their wares, and artisan workshops of each and every thing you can think of, from lowly cooking implements and crockery, to fine jewellers and smiths. If there is something you need, you can find it in the Market District... for a price though.
Despite the competition, surprisingly little crime occurs in the Market District. Businesses are not exempt fromt he odd unfavourable deal or occasional missing shipment of wares, but most of that crime happens at the Port. The people of the Market District focus more on a "helathy" competition amongst each other to get the coin from your purse, rather than stealing that coin from each other.
Factions of the Market District
Many factions make up the rich tapestry of the Market District's diverse population, but three majore players stand above the rest.
Jeweller's Guild
The Jeweller's Guild holds considerable sway over the governance of the Market District, particularly due to sheer amount of money the guild holds in its coffers and the Elvish penchance for the finer things in live displaying their status. The current Market District representative on the Lor'Thal Governance Council is a member of the Jeweller's Guild.
Baker's Union
Originally a union for the pastry chefs and baked goods operators, the Baker's Union has grown to include many of the food businesses within Lor'Thal's market district. Don't be confused though. These aren't like the bread-makers and dough-punchers of The Capital to the south, but the fine craftsmen of cakes and sweets that are as much about presentation than the pallete. The Baker's Union has never had a member on the Lor'Thal Governance Council.
