Chapter 11, Session 7: A Homecoming
General Summary
'I have lived for eons, watching worlds fill, fall and crumble and rebuild... three cataclysms I have lived through, I even watched the fall of the Dread King... I am patient and I am relentless... I can wait for economic growth in the city of Wakefield.Bunny-Ez woke Thordak early to take him on the promised hunting trip - after a brief miscommunication it was agreed to just be a boys' trip. On arriving at the hunting grounds, he turned into a Dire Wolf, and the two began to hunt. Ez was a hindrance for most of the task, but Thordak was able to catch some larger prey. After a successful hunt, Ez instigated play fighting, and Thordak took the moment to bestow the Oath of the Pack on him. Thordak also noticed the Hunt was pleased by the play tussling. The pair returned to town with the meat. Meanwhile, Olympia and Fen snuck into the kitchen to use Kodo’s supplies to make some very crunchy chips for Poppy - they were a success! While they waited for Poppy to wake, Kodo and Mimsi also woke up with just the two of them in bed, enjoying a brief blissful moment before Kodo heard a ‘crunch’. Thordak and Ez returned in time for Olympia and Fen to try and blame Thordak for the cooking. Kodo was baffled by the atrocity that was now his spice holder, and when Ez politely asked in ‘wolf’ to try the chips, it quickly became clear they were not good for normal pallets. Poppy woke up and seemed to like them though. There was a brief moment when Fen taught an increasingly horrified Olympia and Poppy about the digestive tract, and Kodo was too mad at the food atrocities to cook. Ez decided to leave with Mimsi to help her look for her dragon mum. After 2-3 hours, the pair reached the mountain peaks and managed to find her. Ez noticed there were no animals anywhere - even predators were hiding. Suddenly they both saw a large shape approaching in the sky, and Mimsi uncovered her gems to help her mother recognise and not kill her. After being told to follow, Mimsi rode on Ez’s back until they reached the peak where the dragon was waiting, curled up in a large basin with a small hill of animal carcasses in the centre of it. Mimsi approached, and the dragon acknowledged her before transforming into her humanoid form. It was clear very quickly that her verbal use of Common was not very strong. The dragon explained she was making a family nest, but looked blank when Mimsi tried to tell her the family was worried. The dragon didn’t understand ‘worried’, so Mimsi had to explain. In return, she stated that Mimsi worried her when she left when she wasn’t listening, seeing, calling etc. Mimsi apologised as her mother stated she wanted Mimsi and the other Talented goblins to live in her nest forever. Mimsi tried to explain that they were goblins (something the dragon refuted, calling them all dragons), and eventually, her mother accepted they would not take a nest. After being asked if she would go back, the dragon stated the town would be her nest. At first, she thought Ez was food, but when he shifted back into his humanoid form, she seemed to respect him more as he was a shifter. Mimsi tried to persuade her mother not to destroy the town, speaking in draconic. Her mother stated she wanted to create a draconic dynasty with her ‘young’ becoming dragon lords and dominating towns - it was all about power. Mimsi tried to explain it wasn’t power that gave strength, but friends and family, suggesting her mother try kindness as a way of power, as just plain old power was too obvious and had been done before. Her mother agreed and the pair settled on her becoming the town’s banker. She gave Mimsi a scale to use to call her whenever Mimsi was in danger and told Mimsi she could choose a name for her. Mimsi asked Ez if he could send messages long distance, something they both quickly realised he couldn’t do. It was at this moment Ez confessed he didn’t speak Draconic so he had no idea what was being said in the first place. One explanation later, Ez and Mimsi were given a lift back, and Ez created a flower crown for the dragon to wear. While this was happening, Thordak spoke to Temptation, filling her in on what happened in the dreams. Temptation was horrified and apologetic, and spoke about her struggles before confessing she didn’t want to be an inquisitor anymore - she wanted to help people, to help her husband. Temptation declared she would stay in Wakefield for a time to help them work on their defences, then she would return to King's Bay to finish her term while looking into things for the party. In turn, Thordak shared his plan for Dashilla the Dark Queen and the crown, and the couple spent time relaxing together, with Thordak making Temptation a good breakfast. Olympia checked in on Poppy, worried for her wellbeing. Poppy told her she was very happy to be alive again, but that everything that had happened was a lot. Olympia told Poppy about her feelings about the party, ultimately saying that they, and working with them, gave her purpose. Poppy asked if Olympia died, adding she wouldn’t recommend it when Olympia said no. Poppy’s death really hurt, but coming back was nice and felt right. Olympia felt a brief surge of jealousy when Poppy called Fen hot but calmed enough to explain Fen had also died several times. Poppy admitted she also planned to stay in Wakefield. The two bonded for a time, and Poppy made Olympia promise to come back as they made crafts together. Kodo fixed the kitchen disaster. Suddenly he noticed the town starting to panic as a dragon arrived, screeching “Bring me your leader!” As the group gathered outside and Fen grabbed Ardeth, Ez gave the dragon the flower crown he’d made to thank her for the lift. Ardeth arrived and Mimsi explained the new terms for city leadership. Ardeth was totally up for Dragon Queen but made it clear to the citizens of the town that all concerns were to go through Ardeth, and they shouldn’t bother Dragon Queen. Olympia made a bracelet/belt for Dragon Queen as Mimsi had a last-minute chat with Bazzle Strum-Strum to get him to teach Draconic to the citizens of Wakefield. The pair workshopped a name for their mother, settling on Yiarni. Finally, Ez teleported the party to Aria , leaving them on the outskirts so he could hurry ahead to give Lord Alastair a fair warning of their arrival. Kodo stepped ahead of the party and then slowly dropped to a knee, extending his arms. Whispers of ‘It’s Kodo’ started around the town and a stream of kids started running at Kodo, grappling and climbing him. Kodo and the party (and the children hanging off Kodo) started to head into town as Aria came to life around them. Eventually, they reached The Monkey's Paw restaurant and entered. Kodo reunited with his old colleague Aeleith (owner of the restaurant and Kodo’s student). Kodo introduced her to Anastasia and she introduced herself to the party before getting food orders. Ez found Alistair and warned him that Persicorum was in Aria in case he wanted to keep his location hidden still. Alistair told Ez to stop being an idiot and was happy to come and eat with the group. As they walked, Ez gave him a necklace that doubled as a secret revivify component - it was awkward but Alistair accepted it, agreeing they both had some growing to do, but he’d like to see where things went, as did Ez. They headed to the restaurant together. Meanwhile, Kodo played board games and caught up with people, learning Aist Mages had come to take mages from Aria, but the town had none to take. He also learned the goblin inquisitor (Inquisitor Daigrom/Bizzle) in town was no longer one as he didn’t want to leave Aria. Now he guarded the town. Thordak badly lost a game to Kodo just as Aelith brought out the food, including spicy noodles and rice balls. The party asked if Aelith had heard of the party - she had, but not much of Aria had. Alistair and Ez arrived and caught up with the group - Ez had to reassure Aelith that Alistair wasn’t there to try and buy the restaurant again. The party caught Alistair up with their goals and information about the entities. Alistair told the party they needed to work out their end goal as they were only focusing on the next goal. He was also on board with the plan to fuck up Xan Prayerkeep's plans. Alistair asked what would happen with Dashilla, learning she was coming no matter what the party decided to do. Ez also revealed he was the End (after Fen and Thordak spent time talking about how scary the End was). Moving on, the party told Alistair the next location they were heading to, making him realise the party were the reason Edmonton was now run by the Elected Crown. Luckily the party didn’t need to go into town, just nearby to reach the cave. Fen realised he could teleport the party close by, avoiding the risk of entering the town. The party asked Alistair to spy on Xan Prayerkeep’s court to try and find the traitor - he agreed only if the party agreed to kill the traitor, something the party gladly agreed to. Alistair went to go, adding he was happy to see Ez again before the party left Aria. Thordak and Fen teased Ez, while Kodo was surprised, realising the two were in a relationship, and congratulated Ez.
- Yiarni agrees to patiently wait to build her gold hoard in the city of Wakefield.
