Dawnbank Town Hall
Towards the start of the 4th Year of Amaltheon, they became tired of the structure of the town, and with more Wanderer Souls arriving year by year, they decided they needed a bit more of an organisational force in the town. Some of The First, who had gained fame and respect in the town, came together to decide what sort of leadership role they would want, and they settled on an elected Mayor. The local builders came together and built the largest structure in Dawnbank yet, and this would be its town hall. It was built with a large hall in the centre, surrounded by many offices and work rooms, and this large central room would be a meeting hall, in which every Workday, people of the town would be encouraged to bring any issues to the elected mayor and their workforce.
All of the mayors who have previously served and the one who currently serves have statues standing in the meeting hall as a way to honour their service. Though, Edvard the Light's statue is regularly vandalised and often finds itself in need of repair.
History
The first election for the Mayor of Dawnbank happened in Snowmelt of 5 PW, and routinely happens in the first 2 weeks of Snowmelt every 5 years thereafter. There have been four Mayors of Dawnbank so far, and they go as follows:
Acting as the long serving first mayor of Dawnbank, Digby had a hard task ahead of him. By today's standards, Digby did nothing more than day-to-day service. Those who have experience in politics will understand just how much he did. Digby and his office established many of the laws of the town, solidifying many common beliefs into written, stone law, and he spent most of his time making the position easier for those who would follow him. Digby, however, struggled to deal with the outbreak of The Pining in late 10 PW, which would sour public views of him. Due to this and the fact that he spent a lot of time performing legislative work, he was heavily beaten in his campaign for his third term by Edvard the Light.
The second mayor of Dawnbank, Edvard the Light, was not very well liked by his people during his service in the role and would later be removed from the Church of Dawn for the controversies that he had himself embroiled in. Edvard seemed like the perfect candidate during election times, even backed by the Church of Dawn itself, but after a year or two in the role, many of the funds in the establishment had gone missing, eventually being traced back to him. Though he refused to step down during this time, not much was achieved, and he was later succeeded by the infinitely more popular Sakhir Bahla.
The third mayor of Dawnbank, Sakhir Bahla, was the first non-human mayor of Dawnbank, himself a Half Orc. Bahla was known well for his initiatives to encourage adventuring in Amaltheon after many years of unfair treatment at the hands of the rich of the western continent. Many divine prospects would hire many adventurers for effective suicide missions, and he aimed instead to help train these adventurous wannabes through steady contract work to ensure they would have the necessary skills to survive in the Unknown Lands. Many of his policies and plans have been carried on by Lumi Smith, once his rival and later his successor, whom he endorsed when he announced he would retire from the position in the year 29 PW.
Its fourth and current mayor is Lumi Smith, who is known for her very outgoing personality and kind leadership style. Her best known policy was the "Build Back Kinder" initiative, which would pay up local funds and even mayoral office workers to help improve the quality of homes in Dawnbank due to the steady bleed in numbers of local crafters and repairmen, as many had left to go and work in and on Halag's Mond. Lumi's legacy as mayor is still up in the air, though it appears, due to her public reputation, that she is due to be the first mayor of Dawnbank to win a third term in the position.
