Money & Currencies

There are several currencies in use across Tau Elpis, with the two biggest ones being the Credit and the Council Leaf.   The Credit (₡) is the common name given to the Hiderid Coalition of Stars currency, the Xluma (χ). Whilst it is only the official currency of most Coalition colonies, for ease of interplanetary trade, it is generally the main currency used in international financial transfers. Beyond trust in Coalition financial institutions, the Bluereach economic powerhouse and its near-monopoly on uranium and other fissile materials also helps bolster the legitimacy of the Credit.   To be perfectly pendantic, the Credit is only the accounting currency pegged to the Xluma and other corposcrips-turned-currencies used in smaller colonies. However, it is indeed the word 'Credit' which has decisively become the term used by most in daily life.   There are a few other notable currencies across the system. The Leaf (Ƚ), the currency in use across Boshaari Council space, is the second-largest currency currently in use, though it is largely propped up by Aistanar's agricultural exports. It does see less use on foreign markets which do not involve Aistanar, with most traders preferring to use the more stable and established Credit as a base unit of wealth.   The Economic Domain Unit (EDU) , also called in everyday use kruna after a traditional Mewei coin, is in use on Nufano and other Mewei stations, as a composite, floating currency average of all five Mewei Domain currencies active on the planet. Nufano also trades in Programmable Matter, though its scarcity makes it a less desirable currency vector.   Smaller or more isolated powers use different currencies - the Hhrot Dominion use scrips, whereas several groups beyond the Hodeth Belt have their own, local currency - though one is never far from a credit converter or dispenser.   Currencies are not the only way to get paid. Many traders also prefer to trade in tangible goods - and, especially on Hakaria where wages are generally low, favours from higher-ups can be traded just as frictionlessly...
