The Old Gods are those first worshipped by the indigenous peoples of Ancathra: first treants, then the yesreni - giants and their offshoots, dwarves, gnomes, and giant-kin. Originally there were other gods, but many of the old gods died over time through the loss of worshippers. Only a dozen remain. All of them are still commonly worshipped around the world. Their worship has spread to every people.
The Old Gods created nine immortals called The Tahminehs to help them guide and protect the life of the world. Each tahmineh is different in form and temperament from all the others, and many have never made themselves known.
One of the tahmineh was Harrukan, immortal king of the yesrenigiants, who was destroyed defending Taressea from the dragons’ invasion two hundred thousand years ago.
Another tahmineh was Balador, a half-bear druid. Tahmineh Balador served as guardian and advisor to the ausrani for thousands of years after they had won their freedom from the dragons fifteen thousand years ago. Falsely accused of treason by elven supremacists when the caisheni first appeared in the world, he was turned to stone seven thousand years ago at the Massacre at the Crossroads. His worn statue is said to still be there. The magic that turned him to stone has been lost, and all attempts to free him have failed.
Tahmineh Nereal is a lamia seer who lives in a cavern deep in the Carentan Forest, refusing all visitors.
Tahmineh Bhaarun is an earth elemental who can be found deep in the Underdark, never visiting the surface. The other five tahmineh are unknown.
