Campaign 2: Crash Course Intro

The World

Arcturus is a galaxy halfway through the process of unifying under one banner. The Unison Network controls most of the inner spheroid and continues to press outward, adding ever more peoples and cultures to their federation. The outer shell, however, remains independent; local alliances and fledgling civilizations share this space, as do dubious syndicates and lethal foresters.

The Verakor are the most populous species in the galaxy, and are seen as the faces of the Network; the vast majority of them live in Network-conjoined spaces, but there are plenty of exceptions. The other races comprising the Originals are also quite widespread, with the exception of the extinct Zemtels, who are remembered for their wisdom and grace.

No Gods

Speaking more broadly, one is unlikely to encounter the supernatural or magical in this setting. Sometimes advanced technology might give the appearance of magic, or the sheer alienness of a lifeform might instill the fear of god in an individual, but these things are rarely encountered at best, and so shouldn't be used to build a character. Classes like Wizard and Cleric are thus off the table, although the mundane D&D classes are still available to you.

No Men

Another peculiarity here is the absence of humans; whether or not they exist in the universe somewhere, they certainly have never made contact with Arcturus. Humans are also off the table as a player option.

Stardate 156,072-29

Life aboard the Eigenvector convoy Rimtreader is fulfilling, though the longer voyages between planetside orbits or station docks can make life more monotonous than usual. It's been about two months since Rimtreader left the yttrium mining colony on Vulpatri, and three days since it arrived at the Fognight Beacon. Now as the convoy waits for the go-ahead from its scout team to pass through peripheral Network space, a restlessness is growing among some of the mothership’s denizens.

Later this morning you’re scheduled to meet with the convoy’s constable, Jarnin Tong, to fulfill your Civil Upkeep assignments. You have just enough time to complete your morning routine, but you shouldn't keep the constable waiting.
